then newly enlarged town park on
Rizal Day, December 30, 1924, then
a very big and well celebrated
occasion.

EXPLANATION
The Rizal Monument in Sariaya, Quezon
Background and
Significance of
the Monument The Influence of Rizal
The monument was made through the inspiration
from the revolution. Essentially, the monument is a tribute to the
to the Revolution
martyrdom of a great man, who, though wrongly accused,
accepted his fate as a glorious opportunity. One who offered his
life for his sad, beloved country, though the privilege was not his
alone. The blood of many men like him had been spilled on this
killing field, once called Bagumbayan, of our colonial past. The
heroism of Rizal inspired the Kapisanang Muling Sumilang
Organization of being a part of the revolution against tyranny,
wherein the symbolism of Rizal became the very fuel of every
people from the community. Aside from patriotism, the statue
was also built with the Glorita to symbolize the importance of
education in the community, using Rizal’s wisdom and
experiences as the wonderful gifts given by learning and
avoiding ignorance. It is that such symbolism that bears for the
Rizal Monument in Sariaya the burdens of the historical
narrative that it hosted—a historical symbolic narrative that is of
all us needs, love to our country and knowledge to where it
speaks.
