C. Abstraction
(Discuss with pictures and meanings) Injury-
an instance of being injured or a damage to a
person’s feelings.

Causes of sports injuries may include:

 Improper or poor training practices
 Wearing improper sporting gear
 Being in poor health condition
 Improper warm-up or stretching practices
before a sporting event or exercise.

Question: What happen if you join a sports Answer: I will possibly get injured during the
game even though you know that you don’t first game
have enough training and proper exercise?

Common sports injuries include:

 Sprains and strains-A sprain is an injury
to the ligaments and capsule at a joint
in the body. A strain is an injury to
muscles or tendons.
 Joint injuries (knee)- Includes sprains
and tears of soft tissues, fractures and
dislocations. Common signs of knee
injury are pain and swelling.
 Dislocations - An injury in which the
ends of your bones are forced from the
normal positions. The cause is usually
trauma resulting from fall, an auto
accident, or a collision during contact
or high-speed sports.
 Fractures- is a break, usually in bone.
Fractures commonly happen because
of car accidents, falls, or sports injuries.

Ask yourself:
“How can I prevent a sports injury?”

The following are some basic steps to prevent

a sports injury:

 Develop a fitness plan. That includes

cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and
flexibility. This will help decrease your chance
of injury.
 Alternate exercising. Different muscle groups
and exercise every other day.
 Cooldown properly. After exercise or sports.
It should take 2 times as long as your warm-
ups.
 Stay hydrated. Drink water to prevent
dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.
 Stretching exercises. It can improve the
ability of muscles to contract and perform,
reducing the risk of injury. Each stretch should
start slowly until you reach a point of muscle
tension. Stretching should not be painful. Aim
to hold each stretch for up to 20 seconds.
 Use the right equipment or gear and wear
shoes that provide support and that may
correct certain foot problems that can lead to
injury.
 Learn the right techniques to play your sport.
 Rest when tired, avoid exercise when you are
tired or in pain.
 Always take your time during strength
training and go through the full range of
motion with each repetition.
 If you do sustain a sports injury, make sure
you participate in adequate rehabilitation
before resuming strenuous activity

(Present 1 minute sample video exercise)

Ask students to do the sample exercise is good

for the body and with the proper precautions,
sports injuries can often be prevented. The
quality of protective equipment - padding,
helmets, shoes, mouth guards - has helped to
improve safety in sports. But you can still be
susceptible to injury.

REMEMBER: Always contact your health care

provider before starting any type of physical
activity, especially vigorous types of exercises
or sports.

D.APPLICATION
“Go back to your respective group” “In each
group I want you to write two sports game
that you want to join in an upcoming sports
event in your school and me tell what safety
practices you will do to prevent injuries before
you play the sports that you choose.”
“I will give you 5 minutes to do this task. You
may start now.”
