Determinate Beam Analysis Techniques

1) The document discusses internal forces - normal force, shear force, and bending moment - that develop in structural members when external loads are applied. These internal forces only exist at cut sections within the member. 2) Examples are presented to demonstrate how to calculate the internal shear and bending moment at specific points on beams by drawing free body diagrams, applying equilibrium equations, and considering the external loads and support reactions. 3) The examples show determining the internal forces at various beam sections, accounting for different loading and support conditions, including point loads, distributed loads, and different support types like pin and roller.

bending moment and to draw their diagrams.

STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS 2
Internal Loadings Developed In Structural Members
Any structural member (except truss member)
has 3 internal forces, that only can appear if a cut
made in the member. These forces are as follows

• Normal Force ( N) : Force normal to the

member cross section or parallel to member
center line

• Shear Force ( V) : Force parallel to the member

cross section or normal to member center line

•Bending moment (M) : Moment about the

principle axis of the member cross section
