THIFM is a gothic suspense tale set in a cursed mansion that deals with time and
Christian theology. The story revolves around Michel, who awakens there as an amnesiac spirit
and meets a maid who takes him back to the past to witness a group of tragedies that the witch,
Morgana, befell on the inhabitants of the manor. Both Morgana and Michel faced similar pasts of
abuse, which made her pity him and offer to curse his family. He refuses, even after his death at
the hands of his brother, because he was able to find someone to share his burden with. In his
spirit form, he learns the situations and regrets faced by the perpetrators from Morgana’s past to
help her find closure. This opens her eyes to the futility of revenge, as it only hurts herself even
more.

I enjoyed reading this novel, as it's fantastically well-written with amazing use of
narrative techniques. A question that both the witch and the protagonist face is "Is forgiveness
possible?". The moral value of the story I learned is that you shouldn’t judge someone for their
actions, however terrible they might seem, when you don’t know anything about the life
circumstances that led to them.

THIFM is a beautiful novel, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who truly
wants to understand someone rather than giving in to hatred and revenge. It may not be for the
faint of heart, but it is certainly a somber symphony of bittersweet beauty.
