PLAYSCAPE

Proposed Interior Design of a Day Care Center

Design Concept
Toy blocks, also called “building blocks,” are solid shapes used for construction play. Some are
simple planks made of wood. But whatever form they take, blocks can function as powerful
learning tools. The vibrant colors and diverse shapes of the blocks stimulate imagination and
encourage hands-on engagement. By integrating these blocks into the environment, the Day
Care Center promotes cognitive development, problem-solving skills, and teamwork as children
collaborate to construct various structures.

Design Rationale
By adopting a sensory-focused design approach centered around toy building blocks, the
daycare center aims to create an immersive environment that engages children's senses and
promotes holistic development. The tactile nature of building blocks provides opportunities for
children to explore different textures, sizes, and shapes, stimulating their sense of touch and
enhancing fine motor skills. The vibrant colors of the blocks ignite visual stimulation,
encouraging children to observe, differentiate, and categorize, thereby fostering cognitive INSPIRATION
development. Moreover, the auditory aspect of block play, with the clinking and clanking of
blocks being assembled, offers auditory feedback, promoting sensory integration and spatial
awareness. By embracing sensory-focused design principles through the incorporation of toy

building blocks, the daycare center seeks to provide a multi-sensory experience that supports
children's learning, creativity, and overall well-being.

Design Objectives
To enhance fine motor skills through tactile exploration of different textures and shapes.
To foster cognitive development by encouraging observation, differentiation, and
categorization of block attributes.
To support sensory integration and spatial awareness through auditory feedback during
block assembly.
To provide a multi-sensory experience that engages children's senses and promotes holistic
development.
