a. A piston-cylinder device contains 10 kg of R-134A at 700 kPa and 60˚C. The


refrigerant is now cooled at constant pressure until exists as liquid at 20˚C.
Determine,

Air at 10 oC and 80 kPa enter the diffuser of a jet engine steadily with a velocity 200
m/s. The inlet area of diffuser is 0.4 m2. The area leaves the diffuser with a velocity
that is smaller than the inlet velocity. Determine:

i. the specific volume, v1 at the diffuser inlet

a. Heat is transferred to a heat engine from a furnace at a rate of 60 MW. If the


rate of heat rejection to a nearby river is 20 MW, determine;
i. the net power output

b. An adiabatic refrigeration unit compresses R-134A saturated vapor at 22˚C


to 1200 kPa. Determine,
