JOURNAL WEEK 1

NUMBER OF JOURNAL :1

DATE : 2RD JANUARY 2024- 4TH JANUARY 2024

TOPIC : ICE-BREAKING

1.0 FOCUSED ISSUE

The focused issue of this week is ice-breaking session. Ice-breaking session

typically refers to an activity or game designed to welcome attendees and warm up the
conversation among participants in a meeting, training class, team building session, or
other activity. Any event that requires people to comfortably interact with each other
and a facilitator is an opportunity to use an icebreaker. As it was the first week of Phase
2 Practicum, it is believable where awkwardness is in the air, either it is teacher-student
or teacher-teacher teaching and learning session. If I had to pick one word to describe
my first day at practicum this past Tuesday, it would simply be “rewarding.” I had the
chance to experience three quite different grade levels and get a sense of the
curriculum, class structures, and methods of teaching involved in each. Being in a small
school, I was able to interact with almost all the teachers and staff. This really opened
my eyes to the importance of “community” in this school. That is, all the adults,
including parents show such a keen interest in developing the finest learning
environment possible for the students. In terms of classroom expectations and
rules/routines, I thought all three classes I visited had some similarities; however, there
were some differences in terms of different level of proficiency among students.

2.0 ANALYSIS

The focused issue involving ice-breaking session will become an incompetent

one as they lack problem-solving skills, communication skills and other significant soft
skills.

4) Help student learn about each other

4.0 PERIOD OF TIME TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE

5.0 FOLLOW UP ACTIONS

Follow up actions that can be done are as follow:

a) Conduct interesting activities that can arouse students’ interest such as group
work, games and such.
b) Seek knowledge from experience teachers.

7.0 REFLECTION

In conclusion, first meeting with the new environment in school of course brings
a whole new bucket of ups and downs, yet it is a whole new journey for me and my
friends. Thus, there are still more for us to learnt, and in order to do that, establishing
good relationships with the school, teachers, and students is a must.
