What have you observed in the video?

Present the Learning tasks of the Day:

Presentation of the 1. Differentiate destructive and nondestructive welding inspection
new lesson types;
2. Illustrate the differences of the types of weld inspection;
3. emphasize the importance of knowing how inspect a weld.

Let me introduce to you a very important role in welding industry.

Welding Inspector

 for inspecting and assessing the quality and strength of

welding work.
 Their job is to ensure welds are safe and ready to
function as part of the device or structure.
 inspect the equipment used and ensure welders adhere to
company and state safety regulations.

Discussion proper

Types of Weld Inspection

I. Destructive Welding Inspection

Bend Tests
 Two pieces of metal welded together at the top should
withstand a certain amount of bending and pressure before the
item fractures or breaks.
Nick Break Test
 To perform this test, the welding test piece of a welded butt joint
is put between two supports with applied pressure.
 A quick blow from a hammer or a press causes the piece to
fracture.
 You can then examine the test piece for defects such as gas
pockets and slag inclusions.
Acid Etch Test
 The cut test piece is put into an etching solution such as nitric
acid or iodine and potassium iodide. This acid will react with the
welding material and will visually show the boundary between
the base metal and the weld metal. This will cause any
imperfections in the weld such as gas pockets to appear.

II. Nondestructive welding Inspection

Visual Inspection (VT)

 Visual inspection is a non-destructive testing (NDT) weld quality
testing process where a weld is examined with the eye to
determine surface discontinuities. It is the most common
method of weld quality testing.

each other? 3

How about group 2? What are your ideas?

How important is it to know how to inspect a weld?

E. Application Directions: Group yourselves into 2. The first group will compose a yell
