PERFORMANCE TASK IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

Performance Standards:
1. The learner is able to apply an appropriate random variable for a given real-life
problem (such as in decision making and games of chance).
2. The learner is able to accurately formulate and solve real-life problems
in different disciplines involving normal distribution.
Specifications:
i. Grouped activity (for HUMSS: two groups only 14 members per
group)
ii. Create a front page.
iii. Output must be encoded and placed on a white folder. No Prescribed
font style. Long bond paper. Be creative but presentable. Artworks or
borders is allowed.
iv. Attachment should include pictures while gathering the data,
individual contributions of the member.
v. Select a leader. Leader must then rate the contribution of each
member of the group. The rating must not be told to his/her
groupmates.
vi. Output will be rated based on the attached rubric.
vii. Submission before deadline will garner additional points.
viii. Deadline: March 15, 2024

I. Title: Random Variables, Probability and Normal Distribution

II. Objectives:
a. To learn and appreciate the principle of Normal distribution, Sampling
Distribution and Estimation of Parameter.
b. To apply in actual settings and conditions.
c. To formulate and calculate the distribution of certain phenomena or events and
to discover the statistical properties of the particular event in terms of the
Mean, Variance and Standard Deviation.
III. Procedure:
A. Choose from 1 to 3 and get a record.
1. Number of sleeping hours in a day
2. Daily allowance/Weekly allowance
3. Grade in a specific subject
Gather the above data from the 40 Respondents who were Grade 11
students only: 10 students per strand.
ABM - 10
STEM - 10
GAS - 10
HUMMS - 10
Total 40 students
B. Data gathering procedure and Sampling technique used.
Discuss here how did you determined your respondents and how did you
gather the data.
C. Data Summary: Make a list of Number of sleeping hours in a day/Daily
allowance or Weekly allowance/ Grade in a specific subject of the students.
For Example:
Student Grade Student Grade Student Grade
No. No No.
1 93 11 81 21 83
2 77 12 90 22 81
3 80 13 80 23 84
4 90 14 79 24 84
5 94 15 79 25 78
6 81 16 86 26 82
7 65 17 83 27 85
8 78 18 80 28 78
9 85 19 84 29 82
10 81 20 82

D. Make a tally from lowest to highest and the number of frequency.

For Example:
Grade Frequency Grades Frequency
65 1 83 2
77 1 84 3
78 3 85 2
79 2 86 1
80 3 90 2
81 4 93 1
82 3 94 1

E. Graphical Representation: Make a graph of table C, with the Grades at

the X-axis and the frequency at the Y-axis.
For example:

Grades in SAP

F. Compute for the average or mean, 𝐱̅ , varianceσ and the standard

deviation of the data on table D.
Show complete solution using a table.
X
P(X)

Example. x̅ = 82.24 and 𝜎𝑥 = 5.3669

G. Make at least 20 random samples of the variables taken three at a time
and compute for the average or mean for each sample.
Ex.
Samples Sample mean Samples Sample mean
77 93 85 65 83 74
83 78 81 65 80 73
93 65 79 65 77 71
82 81 82 93 78 86
65 90 78 77 90 84
85 65 75 77 86 82
80 94 87 84 81 83
86 85 86 94 85 90
81 93 87 93 84 89
77 94 96 90 80 85

Make a tally of the Means from lowest to highest and the frequency or the
number of occurrence Ex.
Sample Mean Frequency Sample Mean Frequency
71 1 83 1
73 1 84 1
74 1 85 2
75 1 86 2
78 1 87 2
79 1 89 1
81 1 90 1
82 2 96 1

H. Make a chart with the Sample mean at the X-axis and the Frequency at
the Y -Axis

71 73 74 75 78 79 81 82 83 84 85 86 87 89 90 96

I. Compute for the Average, Variance and Standard Deviation (Take Note:
Sample Data and Not Population Data)
𝑥̅ (Mean) = 82.65, 𝜎𝑥̅ (Sample Standard Deviation) = 6.2683

𝑁𝑜𝑡𝑒. These are approximate values

J. Z-Score

Select 6 samples from your data and convert this into a z-score. Draw the
corresponding Normal Curve and find the area between two z-scores i.e. area between
corresponding z-score of samples 1st and 2nd, z-score 3rd and 4th and z-score 5th
and 6th .
K. Discussion and Interpretation

Answer the following questions.

1. Describe the result of your chart in E?

2. Describe the result of your chart in I?
3. Compare the results in F and G, do the results reflect the characteristics of each
other?
4. What do you think is the source of difference or error on the results of F and G?
5. Determine the point estimate and the confidence interval.
6. Reflect on your estimation. Are you confident about it. To what extent are you
confident? Express your confidence as percentage.
K. Conclusion
What can you conclude about the data that you have collected?
