A REPORT ON TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR OF EXPOSURE
SWITCH OF AN X-RAY MACHINE
An X-Ray machine is an essential imaging device used for examination of intern parts of the
body.

PROBLEM : FAULTY EXPOSURE SWITCH

FINDING: BROKEN EXPOSURE SWITCH CABLES

PROBLEM SOLVING

First of all, we started by conducting visual checks by checking wires, wall sockets, machine
switches and lead jackets for any damages.

Secondly, we used screw drivers to dissemble the X-Ray machine were able to observe that the
cables of the Exposure Switch were cut and the port was not connected to the circuit board.

Thirdly, we clearly observed the different color codings on the exposure cable which were red,
white and blue and made comparision of the wire length and matched the wires to get each of
them into their respective continuous line.

On determining the line connection of each wire, we tried stripping off the wires using the side
cutter and nosal plier where we obtained difficulties due to the small size of the wires.Later on,
we found out the easiest way of stripping very small wires by melting them using a hot soldering
gun.

Then, we were able to join the wires after stripping by twisting them together and performed
continuity tests using a digital multimeter to confirm whether the wires are matching and we
received positive results.

Furthermore, we soldered the joined wires to strengthen the joints, insulated them and performed
the last continuity test using a digital multimeter.

Finally, we connected the 12-pin connector back to the circuit board and re assembled the
machine back as it was using screw driver and powered the machine to check for functionality
and we observed an error “F031” on the display screen.

TOOLS USED:
 Digital multimeter
 Screw drivers
 Soldering gun
 Insulating tape
 Blade cutter, side cutter, and long nosal plier.

ADVICE TO THE USER;

 The user should be well conversant with how to operate the machine.
 Should ensure that the machine is cleaned, maintained and serviced regulary
 The user should practice certain ethics such as daily visual checks of the machine and the
functionality tests.
 Should do inventories after the repair of the machine.

ADVICE TO THE MANAGEMENT;

 Should ensure that the user and service manuals are available and well kept.
 Should ensure that the dark room consists of burglar proofs to secure the machine from
rodents and thieves.
 Saftey gear should be provided to the learners
