Describe and/or discuss in, at least, in one sentence the following Philippine Historical terms, dates
and events given.
1. Interim Batasan Pambansa
- As required by the 1973 Constitution, it functioned as a transitional legislative body during the Philippines'
transition from a presidential to a semi-presidential system of government.
2. Constitutional Convention
- The Articles of Confederation were amended by the Constitutional Convention with the intention of creating a
more powerful executive arm of government.
3. Citizen Assemblies
- A citizens' assembly establishes public policy in a jury-like manner. Its members are given the time,
resources, and a wide range of perspectives to gain a thorough understanding of a subject. Together, they
make up a representative sample of the public.
4. September 21, 1972
- The day the Marcos administration officially started and on which Martial Law was declared. Additionally, it
gave Marcos the power to shape history as he saw fit.
5. Constitutional Commission
- These are governmental organizations that operate independently of the three major branches. The following
are the constitutional commissions: •Civil Service Commission •Commission on Audit •Commission on
Elections
6. August 21, 1983
- Former Philippine senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was killed on the tarmac of Manila International Airport,
which is now known as Ninoy Aquino International Airport in his honor.
7. February 22-25, 1986
- Millions of Filipinos from all walks of life came together for the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, which
marched along EDSA, the main road in Metro Manila, in an effort to overthrow President Ferdinand E. Marcos'
tyranny and bring in a new era of genuine freedom and democracy.
8. Presidential Commission on Good Government
- The recovery of former President Ferdinand E.'s ill-gotten fortune is under the responsibility of the
Presidential Commission on Good Government.
9. Commission on Human Rights
- The Commission is tasked with looking into claims of civil and political rights violations involving human rights
violations against vulnerable and marginalized groups in society.
10. Foreign Policy
- A nation's use of various tactics to direct its ties with other nations and international organizations is known as
its foreign policy. This means that a variety of international concerns, alliances with other nations, and even
internal politics make up foreign policy.
11. International Law
- International law is a body of regulations and guidelines that control how sovereign governments interact and
behave with one another, with individuals, and with international organizations.
12. Commander-in-Chief
- The person in charge of an armed force or a military component is known as the commander in chief or
supreme commander.
13. Bill of Rights
- A bill of rights, also known as a charter of rights or declaration of rights, describes the most significant rights
granted to a nation's citizens.
14. Sovereignty
- In politics, the term "sovereignty" demonstrates absolute power or dominating authority.
15. Suffrage
- Suffrage is the ability to vote in the representative government to choose public officials and approve or
disapprove of proposed laws.
