OUTREACH ACTIVITIES
-Outreach activities refer to the
provision of services to populations that
may not have access to them. It entails
reaching out to other people, particularly
in a charitable or benevolence manner. In
order to reach different audiences, such
as college students, the homeless, or the
community, outreach can be carried out
by various organizations, including
churches, corporations, or centers.
Additionally, outreach can go beyond
present or customary boundaries.
Examples:
1. Partnering with K-12 Teachers- A
fantastic strategy to increase the wider
implications of scientists' work is to
collaborate with K–12 educators for
outreach initiatives. Disseminating
information and educational
programming to general audiences,
including K–12 teachers and students, is
a frequent strategy.
2. Community-Based Participatory
Research adds to or replaces academic
and other professional research with
research done by community members,
with the goals of educating, improving
practice or bringing about social change.
3. Mental Health Outreach- is the practice
of providing services to patients directly,
as opposed to forcing them to visit clinics
and hospitals. The seriously mentally ill in
the community prefer it as a form of
treatment. The purpose of mental health
outreach work is to support, encourage,
and enable members of the community
who may be experiencing a variety of
problems.
EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
-Extension activities are exercises that
deepen the understanding of a certain
lesson and can be adjusted in difficulty to
suit different student types. There are two
sorts of extension activities: conceptual,
which are meant to provide students the
chance to understand and use the target
words in an activity connected to the unit
theme, and drill and practice, which are
meant to give students opportunity to
practice the vocabulary words and
meanings. The instructor should naturally
but purposefully increase the students'
language and vocabulary during the
conceptual extension activity.
Examples:
1. Choice Boards- are the most favorite
type of extension activity. They enable
students to select activities that best suit
their individual learning styles, but all of
the students are applying the same
notion.
2. Design a Project- Students might
construct a list of intriguing facts as they
learn more about a subject through
literature and technology. They can use
those data to build a project to present to
the class.
3. Teaching Others- One of the best ways
to learn is to teach someone else, so your
early finishers benefit from this extension
activity. It is also great for your struggling
students, because they can often
understand the concept better when one
of their peers explains it to them.
