Based on the above table, the researcher found that the main causes of students'
difficulties in English are primarily psychological factors, accounting for 88.24%
based on questionnaire results given to students. Students are very afraid when in
an English class and fear when the teacher asks them to speak in English. They
perceive that English class is difficult and very intimidating, considering speaking
English as a negative thing that their friends mock. Hence, it can be said that the
cause of students' communication difficulties is the students' own psychological
factors.
Psychological factors can be a difficulty for students in speaking English. Some
psychological factors that can affect students' ability to speak English include
anxiety, fear, and lack of confidence. Anxiety and fear may arise when students
lack confidence in speaking English, especially when speaking in front of a crowd
or when they have to communicate with strangers. This can make students
nervous and find it challenging to express themselves effectively. Additionally, a
lack of confidence can also impact students' ability to speak English. Students
who lack confidence tend to hesitate in using English and often avoid situations
that require them to speak the language. Therefore, it is crucial for teachers to pay
attention to students' psychological factors and help them overcome anxiety, fear,
and lack of confidence in speaking English. This way, students can feel more
comfortable and confident in using English, ultimately enhancing their speaking
skills.
