Ladies and Gentlemen,

DE-CARBONISING TRANSPORTATION

 Transport Sector is responsible for 14% of India’s

total green-house gas emissions

 Road Transport – 90% emissions of Carbon

 India –become Third largest Auto market in World

o Registered Vehicles – 34 crores

o Growth rate of Vehicles – 9.91%

 Current Transport sector-85% dependent on fossil

fuel

 India consumes 30% of the world's fossil fuel needs

o Import of Petroleum products - Rs. 16 Lakh Crore

o 35 to 40% Pollution because of Petrol-Diesel

o Air pollution is the big problem in Indian Cities

 Need to discourage use of Petrol/Diesel as a fuel

 Policy is adoption of import-substitute, cost-

effective, pollution free and indigenous fuel for

transport

 Big milestone in achieving the target of Carbon

Neutral Country by 2070.

GREEN HYDROGEN– Fuel for Future

 Sustainable alternative to coal, oil & gas, with

much lesser carbon footprints

 Decentralised sustainable energy generation option

 National Green Hydrogen Mission – Rs. 20,000

crore, a firm step towards Net ZERO by 2070

 Hydrogen powered Car – Toyota ‘Mirai’ ('भविष्य’)

 Objective is to bring cost of Hydrogen: 1 dollar per kg

by 2030

 ~7066% costs – Power Costs, remaining being capex

(~22%), opex (~8%), financing costs (~3%)

 Green power - Solar, Wind, Hydro & Biomass / mix of

it, Battery storage

 Low cost, compact size Electrolysers from Start ups

 Roof Top Green Hydrogen –Solid Waste and Liquid

Waste Management, Solar power, Electrolyser and

Generator set with Flex Engine

 Long Haul Buses, Trucks, Train, Railways, Shipping,

Aviation on Hydrogen

 Petrochemical, Fertilizers, Chemical, Cement, Steel, Mining,

Fertilizers & Heating Industries

 Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore – Hydrogen from

Bio-mass

 India - Global hub for Green Hydrogen production &

export

FINANCING GREEN HYDROGEN ECOSYSTEM

 Adoption of commercially viable technology

 Encouraging Public Private Partnership (PPP) project

 Supporting Research, Innovations & Startup, IITs

 Innovative financing mechanism such as Municipality

Bond, Green Bond to finance GH2 Technology Projects.

 Insurance fund, Pension fund, Sovereign funds

need to be diverted in financing Green Hydrogen sector

 Venture capital investor in project based financing

 Attracting Foreign investment in the sector, reduce the

exchange fees and hedging cost.

 Need to support and promote Domestic green bonds

market for financing GH2 projects.

 Extending PLI (Production Linked Incentive) for

electrolyser & Hydrogen Fuel cell manufacturing

 Domestic financial institutions should bring IPOs to raise
fund from the market for financing.

 Possible Strategies to Accelerate GH2 Financing

o Five pronged strategy to accelerate GH2 financing
involve conducive policies, investment vehicles,
public-private partnerships, awareness and
innovation
o Conducive policies involves creating right
regulatory framework to monetise green
component and appropriate carbon tax provisions
o Creating investment vehicles, such as green
hydrogen funds, can help attract equity investment
and financing for GH2
o Government can partner with private sector
investors to create GH2 Bank to meet requirements
of debt financing/structured products
o Raising GH2 awareness could be established
through education and outreach initiatives
o Start-up Innovation and Incubation Centers should
be increased and supported for focus initiatives like
Sustainability and GH2
 Roadmap for GH2 @ USD 1/KG
o LCoH journey from present $6/KG (without
storage) to desired level of $ 1/KG by 2030 is
possible through reduction in opex (electricity) ,
capex and financing costs
o India’s GH2 pricing will be possibly driven till 2027
by input cost rationalization and carbon
economics/mandates to spur a growth in efficiency
till 2030
ELECTRIC MOBILITY
