A QUICK GUIDE TO EMAIL PITCHING

THOUGHTS FOR EMAIL PITCHING

1
Get a Warm Lead (if you can)
Try your best to get a warm lead. A warm lead is “someone who has shown interest in a
product or service either by following or liking your work on social media, signing up to
your email newsletter, as a referral from a friend or previous client or some other
expressed interest.” This will increase your chances or working with that company.

Pro tip - If you wanted to work with a specific brand; buy their product and then take a variety of photos with it.
Then post and tag the brand on instagram or send the photos to the brand to use “free of charge” to build a

2
relationship with them.

Email Address + Subject Line

Make sure your email looks trustworthy! Nobody is opening an email from
cameracutiexxx_89@yahoo.com. Highly recommend getting a custom domain name. E.G
hello@knowhaumedia.com. Battles are won at the subject line. One of the best email subject
lines I’ve ever received was from the pant’s company DUER. Their subject line was “You’re
invited to a party in our pants!” This was creative, on brand, a little edgy and made me like
brand right out of the gates. A simple yet effective title that often works for us is YOUR
BRAND X THAT BRAND. E.G @TheChrisHau x DUER Pants.

3
Short and Sweet
Introduce yourself and include a personalized message about the brand or person you’re
emailing. (E.G Hi Blundstone, Pleasure to connect with you via email. I am a huge fan of
Blundstone, I’ve owned a pair of 550’s for over 6 years and they still look like the day I
bought them!) Then quickly explain what your looking to get from them. Is it a partnership or
promotion of a specific product? Make sure it feels personalized and not like you just slotted
their name into a template.

4
What’s in it for them?
When cold or warm pitching always explain the value that the company will be getting out of
the deal and make sure it OUTWEIGHS the value they are providing to you. A company
generally has one objective; how will this impact their bottom line? For example - If you’re a
content creator: explain how many photos or videos they will get, the reach the content will
have on your social media accounts and the market value of that production and reach.

E.G At a high level we will provide 20 x photos for use on social, 1 x photo post on
@TheChrisHau and 5 tagged stories. This has a total market value of $$$ (insert your
number here)

ABC’s - Always Be Closing
End your email pitch by offering to jump on a call to talk about the project in more detail if
they are interested. A good service to book phone calls without the back and forth on
scheduling is https://calendly.com/
