About Simusolar
We are an innovative for-profit company selling and providing financing for equipment systems
that increase rural business incomes. We provide lease-to-own plans for farmers to purchase
solar water pumps for irrigation, for fishers to acquire lights used in dagaa fishing, and for
other types of equipment like solar refrigerators.
Founded in 2014, Simusolar operates across half of Tanzania and Uganda with 9 offices and 80
staff. Our vision is rural prosperity, enabled by productive equipment systems.

Our equipment is turn-key, literally the push of a button. We make complex system design
simple and fast with a proprietary design tool. Renewable energy is built into every system,
cheaply and cleanly powering business.
Mobile under writing allows for quick decisions and live plan selection. User-centric purchase
plans are designed with seasonal client cash flows in mind. Our proprietary PAYG IoT solution
secures equipment for financing.
Last mile distribution and partnerships along the value chain connect us. Our trained
technicians in wells and solar energy are always available. Our warranty is 2 years; our

Simusolar Vision
Simusolar is among the first companies to gain a foothold in the East African market for small
scale business equipment. At maturity, the offerings will include:
1. A variety of contextually-designed productive equipment products that significantly
improve customer incomes: processing tools, transportation, cold chain;
2. Technology-enabled equipment that Simusolar accepts as collateral for future loans so
that customers can continue to expand their businesses and profitability;
3. Expanded services including crop insurance, health insurance, and crop market access
Simusolar’s growth is strategic and steady. High gross margins will allow them to become
profitable within 2024.

Irrigation Specialist

Role Summary: Simusolar is part of the Kilimo Stahimilivu project in partnership with Rikolto, a
Belgian NGO specialized in horticultural capacity building. Through this project, we aim to
increase the water resilience of farmers across Tanzania, with a focus on Arusha, Kilimanjaro
Mbeya, and Songwe. Secondary support is provided to other regions. We are seeking two
Agronomy Specialists to support in designing, procuring, and installing drip irrigation solutions
that are compatible with our solar water pumps and/or water tanks. The Specialist will also
advise farmers and support Simusolar in integrating the drip irrigation offering into its digital
platform by advising on important parameters to be included.

Objectives
• Design, support procurement, and install drip irrigation solutions compatible with solar pumps.
• Train farmers on proper care and provide counsel in field preparation and adoption of drip
systems as part of integrated solar-powered water pump drip irrigation systems.
• Support Simusolar in integrating drip irrigation into its offering.

Responsibilities: The Specialist is responsible for successful drip irrigation adoption:


Design of Drip Solutions
- Visit farms with Simusolar and/or Rikolto to design drip solutions that are suitable.
- Provide clear, standardized, written designs to the farmer and Simusolar.
- Discuss options with the farmers, including costs and benefits.
- Advise farmer on field preparation.

Support in Procurement
- Advise Simusolar on drip providers that balance quality with affordability:
o The drip tape should be expected to last at least 3 seasons
o Clear specifications and comparisons should be provided
- Provide contacts of different providers to Simusolar Procurement for the process (Simusolar
will obtain 3 quotations, comparing like-for-like).

Installation
- Coordinate installation with Simusolar Operations (procurement and logistics), Sales (the
customer point of contact), Field Service (responsible for the solar water pump installation),
and the Client.
- Install the drip irrigation solution and water tank.
- Run tests to validate effectiveness and orient the farmer on its use.

Advise Farmer
- Provide after-sales support should the farmer have questions or the drip required repair.

Advise Simusolar
- Keep detailed and structured records of all customer contexts, designs, installations, and
service in order to support learning and improvement.
- Learn Simusolar’s internal systems and work with Company to integrate drip irrigation as a
permanent part of its offering.

Prerequisites: The Specialist should meet the following criteria:


Education
• Degree in agronomy or related subject.
Experience
• Minimum of 4-years proven work experience in designing, procuring, installing and maintaining
drip irrigation systems.
• Expert at drip solutions for diverse uses: trees, horticulture, etc.
• Experience working with diverse drip irrigation technologies and vendors.
Competencies
• Skilled at documentation of drip designs.
• Skilled at managing diverse stakeholders (e.g. clients, partners, and internal colleagues)
• Values Driven: A proactive and skilled Communicator, Committed to outcomes, Customer
Centric internally and externally, and Data-Driven.
• Result orientation, ability to work under pressure and produce quality work within short
deadlines.

Structure: The role is critical to growth and impact. Structural features support this aim:
- Reports directly to the Hardware Manager
- Collaborates across departments: Sales, Marketing, Service, Operations, Hardware

Location: One expert to be based in Arusha and one in Mbeya with significant regional travel
and field time.
