ACCIDENT PREVENTION
INTRODUCTION
Across the world generally overall accident statistics indicate a general reduction, the construction
industry remains the exception by showing an increase. It is essential that all personnel contribute in
every way possible to reduce accident rates in construction.

WHY?
 Avoid injury: Any injury to a person is not good and the more serious the injuries the more
traumatic affect on that person, his family and work colleagues. By adopting good working
practices such instance will be reduced and as a consequence losses in earnings, etc will not be
incurred.
 Avoid prosecution: Many working arrangements have specific legislation associated with them. If
individuals or company breach this legislation they can have fines imposed by the Police and or
Municipality.
 Avoid losses: Already intimated is the loss of earnings to the injured person, but losses do not
stop there, projects can become delayed. There are also associated costs to such incidents
including insurance premium increases.
