Water Draw Calibration: is a procedure used to determine the volume of a prover by displacing water
from the prover into field standard test measures.

Below numbers and percentage need to be taken into consideration in water draw calibration:

· 0.020% : Calculated by below equation:

{(MAXimum- MINimum)/ ( MINimum)} x {100}

1- The required repeatability for three or more consecutive runs to achieve successful calibration of
displacement provers shall agree within the range of 0.02 %.

2- The accepted shift in prover volume for consecutive calibration volumes (between the new
calibration results and the previous one) is defined as within a range of 0.02 %.

2% – 5% : The sphere is typically inflated to approximately 2% – 5% larger than the inside

diameter of the calibrated section of the prover to prevent water leakage around the sphere,
and should be small enough to minimize excessive friction and pressure drop.

· 50/50: A 50/50-glycol/water mixture is most often used to fill the sphere; however, water or glycol
may be used separately for specific purposes.

· 4 °C – 38 °C: Temperature stability of the water is the key to a successful calibration. The water
used for a waterdraw calibration should have a temperature that lies somewhere between 4 °C and 38
°C.However, water with temperatures outside this range has been used in successful calibrations.

· 25% or more : leak detection and reproducibility purposes, the flow rate on displacement provers
shall be changed between consecutive calibration runs by 25% or more (e.g., fast/slow/fast or
slow/fast/slow. The purpose of this is to identify whehter there is a consistent leak.

· 0.01% : The total uncertainty of the detector and displacer at the 95% confidence level shall be
limited to 0.01% of the length of the calibrated section.

· 0.1°C & ± 0.05°C: The thermometer scale shall be in increments no greater than 0.1°C, and its
accuracy shall be within ± 0.05°C.

· 3 months , 3 years and 5 years : Recalibration of provers should occur if the maximum interval
indicated below has elapsed assuming neither alterations or repairs which affect the certified volume
are made to the prover nor a meter control chart indicates a change in prover volume.

1. Three months for master meter provers.

2. Three years for small volume provers and mobile.

3. Five years for permanently installed pipe provers and permanently installed tank provers.
