This is the story of a 12 year old girl who was
removed from her local school and was sent to Story Sequence opens .
a catholic school in the middle of her school
year .

Ye naya environment ek naye planet ki tarah tha

kyunki yaha unlike her previous school sab
English main baat karte the and infact Hindi

For straight up 1 month the girl kept running

out of her lunch money because she was paying
that as a fine to her Class teacher .

She could not go to her parents cuz they were

in the middle of their own crisis .

The little girl was me and then I did something

It was a time when the internet was not

prevalent so I found the next closest thing and I
started devouring English content and started
to make sense of what different sentences
people say to each other mean in different
situations .

And in a span of only a month I was able to

come up with sentences of my own . And I was
able to get lunch again . It was 5/- for 2 samosas
at the time but they were the best samosas in
the world !

Why did it work ?

What happened there Solution : …….. ?????
Well in a way I had started learning phrases for
having a conversation and instead of thinking of
grammatically correct sentences ,I was able to
come up with a complete sentence for a
situation.

For instance , when my teacher asked me why B roll

are you late?
-
Earlier I would have thought of replying meri
bus mere bina chali gai .my bus left / leave me
without taking me . which would have been
wrong despite me translating it to English .

I was able to recall that when you are not able

to make it in time for something you say
saying . I missed my auto / bus .

Or When I was asked why I hadn’t finished my

homework.
I was able to reply “ I wasn’t able to get to it ,
cuz my dog passed away “

Get to it – mend to do something

Instead of saying – Dog died which would have
sounded harsh I knew the right phrased to say
Because and I didn’t have to translate4 , so not
only my reply was prompt but it was
gramatically correct too because that’s how it is
spoken .

So at this point I guss you can make out the

technique I used to teach myself as a 12 y.o.

It was learning English through phrases . and

not by learning “rules of Grammar”

Which would have taken me months to do , and

I think I would have starved .
