Landscape and Aspiration

A Reflection Paper about Strategic Planning for Architecture Design Firms

The architectural industry revolves around a dynamic nature where in building your own space
in this world of architecture you formulate an effective strategic plan, a unique space that will tailor
your needs and will give you comfort and satisfaction. In the report of the first group, they discussed
the essential components necessary for constructing an effective strategic plan. The report highlights
the significance of understanding the current landscape through market and competitive analysis to gain
insights into external factors that can impact the firm's operations and success.
As a graduating student contemplating the next steps after my studies, the prospect of
establishing my own architectural firm has consistently crossed my mind. Each lesson or discussion on
business management subjects prompts me to evaluate my preparedness, and I often find myself
questioning whether my knowledge and courage are sufficient for venturing into entrepreneurship. The
insights gleaned from the report on strategic planning for architectural design firms underscore the
necessity for continuous learning, particularly in the realm of strategic planning for establishing and
managing a firm.
In acknowledging the vast expanse of knowledge and considerations in the architectural
domain, I recognize that the learning process is influenced by both personal attributes and the
environment in which one acquires knowledge. My experience working in a small architecture firm as
a side hustle exposed me to the story of an apprentice who initially had different career aspirations.
Despite his initial desire to work in a large architectural firm, unforeseen circumstances led him to his
current position. Yet, he expressed gratitude for the invaluable lessons learned, particularly in firm
management. This encounter reinforced the notion that one's trajectory is often shaped by the
willingness to learn and adapt. The apprentice's experience aligns with the sentiments expressed by Ar.
Almeda, the architect interviewed for the report and case study. Ar. Almeda emphasized the significance
of experience, detailing the need for hands-on exposure and the courage to embark on building one's
firm. Within the context of strategic planning for architectural businesses, Ar. Almeda shared valuable
insights, with a primary emphasis on prioritizing client satisfaction. This strategic approach, comprising
goal setting, action planning, and SWOT analysis, serves as a beacon for individuals like me who aspire
to establish their own architectural firms.
Ar. Almeda's perspectives have left an indelible mark on my understanding, particularly as I
navigate my own aspirations of building a firm. The strategic planning methodologies employed by
Almeda Architects, including the emphasis on defined goal-setting and meticulous analysis, are lessons
that I am committed to integrating into my own future endeavors. As I reflect on these insights, I am
inspired by the realization that success in the architectural world hinges not only on knowledge
acquisition but also on the eagerness to learn, adapt, and prioritize client satisfaction in strategic
planning, and the satisfaction you’ll get.
