Project Manager vs Construction Manager

1. What did you understand from the Career Pathways illustration as shown on
page 7?

The Career pathways illustration outlines different routes and stages within
the architecture field. As stated by a famous personality, Peter Guber “Your career
is a journey, and it doesn't happen in a straight line. It's full of twists and turns, and
that's what makes it exciting." This relates to the career pathways in the field of
architecture, where it is not a linear path but rather a dynamic journey that offers
multiple routes for us to explore. The Career pathways show that there are two
primary tracks within the architecture field which are the Academic Track and
Professional Track.

The academic track starts with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS

Arch.) And can pursue higher degrees like MS, MA, or M Arch., with the highest
being a PhD in architecture. The professional track is for those who want to work
directly and can lead to a general architecture practice. Specialization is possible
through a Certificate of Advanced Professional Architecture Practice, and further
expertise can be obtained with a Certificate of Expertise in Specialized Architecture
Practice.

In summary, the career pathways illustration offers me, as an aspiring

architect, the choice between academic advancement, immediate professional
practice, or specialized roles based on my career goals and interests.

2. Among the initial six (6) specialized practices set by the PRCBOA for registered
and licensed architects, what do you intend to take in the future? Why?
In the future, I aspire to specialize in Design-Build Services in Architecture
because it aligns with my passion for overseeing projects from start to finish.
However, before diving into specialization, I think it's wise to start with Architecture
Education. This would allow me to share my knowledge and learn from aspiring
architects, helping me understand the educational aspects of architecture and
improve my skills.
I'm also interested in Green Architecture because it's crucial for creating
environmentally responsible structures. It's a field that resonates with my
commitment to sustainability. In conclusion, I intend to specialize in Design-Build
Services eventually, but I believe that beginning with Architecture Education will
provide a strong foundation. As I gain expertise, I'll consider specialization in areas
like Green Architecture to address environmental concerns in the architectural
industry.

3. Why are soft skills important or essential characteristics that a project manager
should possess? Explain the 11 essential soft skills as shown on page 23.

To begin discussing the significance of soft skills for project managers,

consider the following remark from noted author Peggy Klaus: "Soft skills get little
respect but will make or break your career." This quote highlights the essence of
why soft skills are essential for project managers.

Soft skills are essential for project managers since they have a substantial
impact on project outcomes. Conflict Management is concerned with settling
disputes within the team, whereas Coaching is concerned with guiding team
members' progress. Setting the direction and making crucial decisions require
leadership. Team Building encourages collaboration, while Motivation keeps team
members interested. Trust is essential for efficient communication, and
communication is essential for information transmission. Negotiation aids in the
resolution of disagreements as well as the influence and persuasion of others.
Political and cultural awareness is essential for navigating varied situations, and
decision-making is concerned with making choices under pressure.

In conclusion, these soft skills are critical for project managers. They
facilitate effective communication, dispute resolution, and overall project
management success. Developing these skills is important not only for one's
profession but also for project success.
