INTRODUCTION

“Sticks and stone may break my bone but words will never hurt me.” (Life lessons, H.M,
Pg#3- 7, official publisher). Many expert proved that this adage is not true, in fact words can
Greatly impact more negatively to a person more than physically harming the victim.
(https://simhcoltumwa.org/yelling-al- children-verbal-abuse/). Verbal abuse is the use of
Language with the intention to damage the person’s well-being, and to intimidate, humiliate and
Scare the victim. Verbal abuse can also be expressed in the use of degrading language, and
Frequent and severe wrong criticism. (https://www.verywellmind.com/how-to-recognize-verbal-

verbal abuse Can have serious long-term effects on victim’s development and requires protection from
the state. According to American Psychological association that verbal abuse is extremely critical,
Threatening, or insulting words delivered in oral or written form and intended to demean,
Belittle, or frighten the recipient, (https://dictionary.apa.org/verbal-abuse). Communication
Specialist Patricia Evans clarifies that threats. Don’t have to be drastic, words are intangible but
Powerful and hurtful words that can become more lethal as the victim starts to believe the
Bully. Such as the case with verbal abuse it can feel you worn. Out and weak as it gradually
Diminishes your self esteem Verbal abuse is a type of emotional abuse. It is when someone uses
Their words to assault, dominate, ridicule, manipulate, and/or degrade another person and
Negatively impact that person’s psychological health. Verbal abuse is a means of controlling and
Maintaining power over another person (https://www.verywellmind.com/hoW-to-recognize-
Verbal- abuse-bullying-4154087). “When someone steps on your toe on purpose, it seems to
Hurt more than when the person does the same thing unintentionally” (The sting of intentional
Pain, K.G D.W, pg#1260, 2008 Association for Psychological science, 12/01/08) meaning that
When someone hurts you intentionally it affects you extremely more than when someone hurts
You unintentionally because unintentionally harming is hurting someone you didn’t mean to or
You just say something hurtful, threatening, assaulting words to them by accident. On the other
Hand intentional harming is a type of abuse that the bullies do to the victims by directly giving
Them negative expressions, words, or even an action.
