Types of Reproduction
• Sexual reproduction involves two parents, the
male and the female, that produce reproductive
cells called gametes.

• Asexual reproduction utilize many means other

than the use of gametes. It is a uni-parental
process.

The fusion of a haploid male gamete (spermatozoa) and a haploid female

gamete (ovum) to form a diploid cell, the zygote, is called fertilization.

STAGE 1: Pollination
• Pollen is transferred from the anther to the stigma.
• This is due to various agents such as insects, wind, and water.

STAGE 1: Pollination
• It can be self-pollination or cross-pollination

STAGE 2: Pollen Tube Formation

• A pollen tube develops to carry

the pollen downward.
• Pollen travels from the stigma,
down the style, and into the
ovule of the plant.

STAGE 3: Fertilization
• The male gamete (pollen) unites with a female gamete (ovule) to form a zygote.
• The seeds are the embryo of the plant.

STAGE 4: Seed Formation

• The ovule develops into a seed.
• The ovary ripens and forms a fruit. The fruit may contain a single seed or
multiple seeds.

STAGE 5: Seed Dispersal

• The fruit is carried away from the parent plant by wind, animal or expulsion.

STAGE 6: Germination
• If the seed is embedded in the right kind of soil, it will germinate.
A new plant grows out of the seed.
• A stem reaches upward, and roots go downward into the soil.
