Purpose statement Trainees credited with this unit standard are able to
demonstrate the appropriate work attitude; and apply
interpersonal skills and communication skills in the
engineering industries.

Explanatory Notes

1 Definition
• A specified workplace – the actual workplace in which the trainee is either
employed or on work experience.
2 All assessed communication must meet workplace policy and procedures.
3 Evidence for this unit standard must either be gathered in the workplace or a
simulated off-the-job situation that reflects the workplace.

Outcomes and Performance Criteria

Outcome 1 Demonstrate the appropriate attitude when handling the assigned


tasks in the workplace.

Performance Criteria
1.1 A positive work attitude is demonstrated.
Range A positive work attitude includes but is not limited to –
Having the motivation to get the tasks done; looking for
solutions when facing challenges at work; working
proactively; being open-minded to opinions and advice.

Outcome 2 Apply interpersonal skills and communication skills in the


engineering industries.

Performance Criteria
2.1 Various types of engineering documents are comprehended and
adopted correctly.
Range Engineering documents include but are not limited to
work manuals, company’s guidelines and policies,

manufacturers’ instructions, specifications, data sheets,


job description, quality records, compliance records,
work orders, health and safety guidelines and any other
job completion-related documents. Documentation may
be physical or in electronic format.

2.2 The need for variance in communication approach is exhibited for


communicating with people with different profiles.
Range teammates, apprentices, customers, suppliers,
supervisors, managers, company leaders.

2.3 Effective workplace communication practices are demonstrated.


Range active listening, courtesy, authenticity, clarity of speech,
tone, positivity, questioning, repeating back, systematic
presentation of complex information in well-structured
form, appropriate body language, use of appropriate
channels of communication, use of industry terminology.
