Otter Amigurumi

Pattern by AmbrosCrochet
Every part of the otter is worked in rounds - do not join at the end of each round.

Finished size: approximately 16 cm (6.3 inches)

Yarn: I used 100% acrylic yarn, the Schachenmayr Bravo to be specific, in two different
shades of brown, plus some yarn for whatever object you would like your otter to hold

Crochet hook: 3 mm
You will also need: tapestry needle (or needle and thread)
9 mm safety eyes (or needle and black thread)
plastic nose (or needle and black thread or crochet hook and
black thread)
toy stuffing
scissors
pins
stitch markers or some scrap yarn (optional)

Notes: pattern uses US terminology

Abbreviations and stitches used: magic ring

single crochet = sc
increase = inc
decrease = dec
slip stitch = ss
fasten off = f/o

How to read the pattern: rnd x → we are working on round x

(x sc, inc/dec) * y → the instructions between
parentheses have to be repeated y times; (x sc, inc/dec)
means we will work one single crochet in each x stitches,
and then work one increase or one decrease into the
next stitch. For example, (3 sc, inc) * 6 means: work one
single crochet in each of the next three stitches, one
increase in the fourth stitch; repeat six times
x sc, inc/dec →work one single crochet in each of the
x stitches, then work one increase/decrease in the next
stitch

rnd 8: to make the toes we will section off Stitch marker
rnd 7 in three clusters of 4 stitches each: here
first, place a stitch marker or a piece of yarn
in the stitch after the last stitch worked in
rnd 7 - this step is not necessary, but it
might simplify the process.
First toe: Starting from the stitch where
you placed the stitch marker, make 1 sc in
each of the next 4 sc - so the first of these 4
sc will be in the stitch where you placed the
stitch marker. You will then ss back in the
first sc you made, the one marked by the
stitch marker; f/o, leaving a little bit of a tail
to sew any gaps. You can remove the stitch
marker.
ss back to the stitch marked by
the stitch marker to make the
first toe

4
Second toe: attach brown yarn to the
stitch right beside the 4th sc from the attach brown yarn to the
first toe; make 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitch right beside the 4th
sc, skip the next 4 sc, 1 sc in each of the sc from the first toe
next 2 sc, ss back to the first sc you
made - you can also count these
stitches as two right next to the last
stitch made for the first toe, and then
two right in front, next to the first stitch
made for the first toe.
f/o leaving a little bit of a tail to close any
gaps
lightly stuff the foot
Third toe: attach brown yarn to the
stitch right beside the 2nd stitch from
the second toe; 1 sc in each of the next
4 sc; ss back to the first stitch.
f/o leaving a longer tail for sewing

Tail

using brown start with a magic ring

rnd 1: 6 sc in the magic ring (6)
rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) * 3 (9)
rnd 3: 1 sc in each stitch (9)
rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) * 3 (12)
rnd 5 to 8: 1 sc in each stitch (12)
stuff the tail lightly
f/o leaving a tail for sewing

5
Assembling

attach the muzzle to the head; the

muzzle should cover rnd 11 to rnd 15,
and it should be placed right between
the eyes; stuff it lightly before sewing
completely. Using the tail from the
muzzle you can shape the face: insert the
needle in one of the stitches from rnd 11
between one of the eyes and the muzzle,
as close to the eye as possible; have the
needle come out the stitch placed
similarly but for the other eye, then have
it come out on the other side; pull and
the eyes will move closer together.
Repeat if necessary.

6
place the ears: the ears should cover
rnd 9 and rnd 10, right above the
first and last beige stitches from rnd
11

attach the arms to the body: the arms

should cover rnd 18 to rnd 22 of the
body, 10/11 stitches apart - counting on
the back

attach the paws to the body: the paws

should cover rnd 6 to rnd 12 of the
body, right between the arms and 2/3
stitches apart; I prefer leaving them a bit
raised and not completely attached to the
body, so I usually only sew along the line
shown in the picture

7
attach the tail to the body: the tail
should cover rnd 2 and rnd 3 of the
body, placed between the paws
sew the head to the body and you're
done!
