2. Purpose
To ensure food safety and properly implement Integrated Pest Management as per FSSC 22000 and
HALAL requirements.
3. Scope
This SOP applies to all premises where product is received, stored, processed, packed and distributed and to
all food manufacturing employees

All exterior and interior traps and fly lights are verified fortnightly by an approved outside contractor or in-
house. Administration Manager will check interior traps and fly killers every week. Designated food
employee will inspect rodent traps daily and communicate with the Administration Manager for actions
taken and every activity will be documented.
6. Instructions
There is an effective written pest control program for the premises and equipment at Hi Tech Blending.
Following pests may gain entry in the facility as identified by the Food Safety Team inside and outside the
premises;
Cockroaches

Employees will use the services of an integrated pest management program (IPM) using the following steps;
Dispose of garbage quickly and correctly. Always install pedestal operated garbage containers in
the food facility. Keep garbage containers clean, in good condition and tightly covered in all
areas (indoor and outdoor). Clean up spills around garbage containers immediately. Wash, rinse
and sanitize containers regularly.
Store recyclables in clean, pest-proof containers away from the building.
Place food and supplies after delivery as quickly as possible into storage.
Keep all food and supplies 6 inch off the floor and away from walls
Place other opened packages of cereals and grains in storage containers with tight fitting lids
(employee’s kitchen)
Use FIFO (first in first out) inventory rotation, so pests do not have time to settle into these
products and breed.

Clean the facility thoroughly and regularly. Careful cleaning eliminates the food supply, destroy
insect eggs and reduces the number of places pests can safely take shelter.
6.3 Use and Storage of Pesticides:
The Approved Pest Control vendor will decide if and when pesticides will be used in the kitchen.
Approved vendors are trained to determine the best pesticide for each pest and when and how to use it. The
approved vendor is responsible for storage and disposing of all pesticides used in the food facility. If any
pesticide is to be stored on-site, follow these guidelines;
Keep pesticides in their original container (labeled)
Store pesticides in locked cabinets away from food storage and food preparation areas.
Store aerosols and pressurized sprays cans in a cool place.
Check local regulations before disposing of these pesticides if any.
Dispose of empty containers according to manufacturers’ directions and local regulations.
Keep a copy of the corresponding Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) on the premises.
Formulate the chemicals according to manufacturer’ directions.
Train foodservice employees using these chemicals.
7. Monitoring Procedure
1. Admin assistant manager will monitor all the activities related to insect pest control on daily basis.
2. Pest control contractor will inspect both exterior and interior premises for evidence of pests. Catch-
all Traps are checked for pests.
3. Administration Manager will check date and sign off on labels inside all traps.
4. Administration Manager will communicate with approved pest vendor and inspect the list of
chemicals used, the concentration in accordance with label instructions, location where applied,
method and frequency of application.
5. Administration Manager will monitor the map indicating the location of pest control devices.
Administration Manager will ensure that no poisonous baits are to be used in the inside premises of
the building;

All exterior bait stations contain poison. Bait stations are to be placed tight to wall with opening
parallel and nearest to wall.
Bait stations should be inspected every two weeks, unless a need for increased inspections
occurs.
When inspecting bait stations, take a small garbage can to dispose of old empty packages
immediately. Then dump directly into outside dumpster. All half full, or less than half full,
packages should be disposed of and restocked with new packages.
Monitor the activities of birds; any bird activity is prohibited near and around any food, containers, and
process areas.
1. Pest control vendor records all findings and communicate with Administration Manager to record in
Pest Control Log.

8. Corrective Action:
1. The Administration Manager will change companies if the program is not effective.
2. Retrain any foodservice employee found not following the procedures in this SOP.
3. Administration Manager will inspect and Pest control vendor will;
increase the rate of monitoring if there is evidence of activity
add additional bait stations if required
replace broken or lost bait stations
4. Administration Manager and/or Pest control vendor will record the description of deviation, the cause
of the problem, and the corrective action taken for the affected product with the date of action on Pest
Control Log.
5. If there is presence of rodent activity, Admin department will immediately call Pest Vendor and
determine next course of action.
9. Verification:
The Administration Manager will initial and date completed Contractors’ Report and sign off once in a
month to verify completion of work. Once a month the Administration Manager will accompany Pest
Control vendor to ensure the work is done.
