The following task has two parts. Please produce the task in any of the following formats, or
discuss an alternate format with your teacher:

Part 1 – Hosting an 18th Birthday Party 12 marks

Investigate the requirements for hosting a fun, safe and successful event that caters for both over
18 and under 18‐year‐old guests.

1. How to be a responsible host 8

Describe the host’s responsibilities and how to carry out the role before, during and after (once the
party’s scheduled finish time has occurred) the party. You must discuss at least 4 items and for
each, provide a justification as to why you have chosen to discuss it and outline what you
would do as host to ensure the party was both safe and successful.

 Items to discuss may include (but are not limited to):


o Controlling party numbers.
o Supplying food, drinks and entertainment.
o Consideration of neighbours
o How to ensure guests get home safely.

2. How to be a responsible guest (under 18 and over 18‐year‐olds) 4

Describe the responsibilities of guests before, during and after the party. You must discuss at least
2 items. For each item you discuss, provide a justification as to why you have chosen to discuss it
and outline potential issues which could arise if guests were not responsible.

 Items to discuss may include (but are not limited to):


o Behaviour (provide examples)
o Following requests from the event organiser
o Appropriate items to bring.
Part 2 – Alcohol and Sex + Harm Minimisation + Polydrug use 17 marks

1. Alcohol and Sex 6 marks

‘Teenagers who drink alcohol to excess are much more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviour’.

In detail, discuss the above statement. Your discussion should cover the following points:

 An explanation as to why teenagers are more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviour
when under the influence of alcohol.
 Four (4) potential negative outcomes which can result from engaging in sexual behaviour
whilst under the influence.

2. Harm minimisation Strategies 8 marks

Discuss four (4) harm minimisation strategies which teenagers can use if they choose to drink
alcohol. For each, justify your response with an explanation.

3. Polydrug use

Define the term ‘polydrug use’ and explain two risks associated with it. 3 marks
