1. Describe the components of a distillation device?

= In distillation, there are several main components, including:

a. Distillation apparatus: It usually consists of a container into which the raw materials are put,
a column or tube where evaporation and condensation occur, and a condenser to convert the
vapor back into a liquid.

b. Heat source: Usually a heater or flame to heat the raw materials so that they can vaporize.

c. Condenser: Serves to cool the vapor formed into liquid again.

d. Receiving container: Used to hold the distilled product.

2. Explain the difference between recrystallization and crystallization?

= Recrystallization and crystallization are two different processes in the purification of a
crystalline compound:

- Recrystallization is the process of purifying a crystalline compound by dissolving the

compound in a suitable solvent, then cooling it slowly to form purer crystals.

- Crystallization is the process of forming crystals from a saturated solution by cooling the
solution or by reducing the concentration of the solvent. It is a common process for separating
solid compounds from their solutions.
