Exercise No. 1: Living in the IT Era:

I. Essay
a. What gadgets do you own and how do you make them safe and
secured?

Gadgets have taken on a central role in our lives in the era of

fast technological growth. These products have improved the
convenience and connectivity of our lives, from smartphones to
laptops, wearables to smart home appliances. Gadgets do, however,
come with security dangers that could jeopardize our personal data
and privacy in addition to their many positive aspects. Taking proactive
measures to safeguard the security and safety of their gadgets is
crucial for gadget owners.

I encrypt and safeguard my technology in this way. Keeping my

software up to date comes first. Manufacturers release updates to
address flaws and improve security. Your device becomes vulnerable
to various dangers if you don't apply these updates. Whenever
possible, enable automatic updates to make sure your device has the
most recent. Finally, I frequently back up my data. Regular data
backups are a wise safety measure. Possessing a recent backup
ensures that your crucial data is not lost if your device is misplaced,
stolen, or hijacked. You may greatly enhance your device's security
and lower the chance of unwanted access, data breaches, and other
security issues by following these measures and maintaining excellent
digital hygiene.

b. How do you keep your social media accounts secure?

Social media is now an essential component of our daily lives in

today's linked society. We utilize it to communicate with loved ones,
exchange stories, and even do business. The risk of identity theft,
privacy invasion, and security breaches comes with the convenience of
social networking, though. It's essential to have strong security
measures in place if you want to take use of social media's benefits
while remaining safe.

I secure my social media accounts by using authentication and

strong passwords. Making strong, one-of-a-kind passwords for each
network, changing privacy settings frequently, being alert for phishing
attacks, and using secure connections are the cornerstones of social
media security. Make sure you are using a private and secure network
connection when you use your social media accounts. Stay away from
connecting to public Wi-Fi networks because they are more susceptible
to hacker efforts. Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to encrypt your
internet connection and safeguard your data if you must use public Wi-
Fi, and keep an eye on your accounts if you do. Regularly check your
social media accounts for any shady behavior. Be wary of unauthorized
logins, strange connections, and posts that you didn't publish. Change
your password right away and notify the platform's support staff if you
see any strange behavior.

In conclusion, maintaining a secure social media presence is

essential in the current digital era. The risks related to using social
media can be greatly decreased by adhering to the tactics and
guidelines described in this essay. Keep in mind that safeguarding the
security and privacy of your digital identity requires constant
monitoring. Protecting your social network accounts makes the internet
a safer and more secure place for everyone, as well as protecting your
personal information.

c. If you read post in social media that are controversial and hateful, what
do you usually do?

It is practically unavoidable to stumble across messages that are

divisive, hateful, or offensive in today's world of social media, where
millions of individuals freely express their ideas and viewpoints.
Although such material might be quite upsetting, our responses to it
can have a big impact on both our online community and our digital
experience.

When I encounter divisive and cruel posts, I typically react like

this. Assess the post's content to see if it contravenes the platform's
terms of service or community rules. Second, think about how you're
feeling. Controversial and offensive posts might make you feel very
strongly. And last, if the post is offensive or contentious, I will flag it as
a violation of the platform's terms of service or community standards.
As a result, I will block, mute, or take down the owner's posts.

In conclusion, it might be demoralizing to come across

contentious and unpleasant statements on social media, but it's
important to treat them responsibly and with a positive attitude. We can
all work together to create a more accepting and tolerant online
community by reporting breaches, encouraging discussion, and
promoting positive material. It's important to keep in mind that each of
our individual actions might have a ripple effect that affects the general
tone and caliber of conversation on social networking sites.
d. How many hours do you spend in social media, research, and
messenger? Compared to personal / face to face conversation with
family members, which do you spend more time?

Social media influence has spread throughout society in the

current digital era, changing how we interact with one another,
socialize, and spend our free time. The advantages of social media are
apparent, but there is a rising concern about how much time individuals
spend on them, often at the expense of important family time.

I have lost track of how many hours I spend on social media

each day because I spend it there more often than with my loved ones.
Social media's potential to link us together with friends, family, and
even complete strangers from around the world is what makes it so
exciting. It provides a forum for enjoyment, knowledge sharing, and
self-expression. But as these platforms get more convenient, so does
the desire to use them nonstop, which frequently results in a loss of
connection to the outside world, including our loved ones.

e. If you are made to choose between losing electricity and your gadgets,
which would you prefer? Explain.

The use of energy and electronics has almost become universal

in a world that is becoming more digital and linked. We rely on
electricity to run our homes, workplaces, and the modern conveniences
we now take for granted. However, if given the difficult decision
between maintaining electricity or keeping our electronics, I would
choose to save electricity. Modern society depends on electricity to
function. Hospitals, transportation networks, communication systems,
and many more types of crucial infrastructure are all powered by it. Our
world would descend into chaos and complete darkness without power.

In spite of the fact that devices have clearly increased our

productivity and enjoyment of life, they are ultimately interchangeable
and adaptable.
Because of our history of ingenuity and adaptability, we can come up
with analog or non-tech alternatives to make do without some modern
conveniences. There would be far-reaching and disastrous effects in a
world without electricity. Because of this, it is essential to prioritize the
maintenance of electricity in order to uphold the fundamentals of our
interconnected society, while also acknowledging our capacity for
adaptation and success in the absence of specific technological
conveniences.
f. If you have money to spare, to what things are you going to spend
them?

A person's ability to fulfill their fundamental requirements,

pursue their aspirations, and get around in the complex modern world
depends on their ability to manage their finances. As far as I'm
concerned, if I have extra cash, I'll use it however I see fit. I'll save
some of it for unexpected needs and some for my medication because
I have health difficulties.

While the value of money in life cannot be denied, it is critical to

understand that it serves as a tool rather than an end in and of itself.
The use of it to advance our objectives, those of society, and our own
and others, is what gives it meaning. The secret to living a successful
life in which money serves as a useful tool rather than the only
emphasis is to strike a balance between the pursuit of financial
success and the development of meaningful relationships, personal
growth, and a sense of purpose.

g. What do you think your future will be considering all the factors that
affect the way you live today?

The decisions I make today will determine how my future will

pan out, as will my actions and developments. Since neither I nor we
can predict what the future may bring, I make sure that no matter how
challenging life may be right now or shortly, I never forget God.
Essentially, the present is a pivotal time when people, communities,
governments, and organizations have the power to influence the
course of history. It is possible to contribute to the creation of a more
sustainable, prosperous, and equitable future for future generations by
keeping in mind the long-term effects of today's decisions and taking
proactive steps to address obstacles and opportunities.

h. Between your love life, your parents and your studies, which would you
consider is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd most important thing in your life today.
Explain.

My family would come first in terms of values and obligations at

my age, followed by my studies and then my love life. I would not have
advanced this far without the help, love, and care of my family. I want
to succeed in school, and so do my parents. Last but not least, my love
life adds an extra layer of joy to my life.
i. Considering your experiences before and during the pandemic, which
do you think is the best mode of lesson delivery: online or face to face?
Explain considering time, expenses and effort.

My personal opinion is that face-to-face instruction is the best

method. Although both in-person and online learning have advantages
and disadvantages. In-person instruction is much more enjoyable and
results in higher levels of learning and comprehension than online
instruction.

Online Learning:
Pros:
Flexibility: Online learning offers flexibility in terms of when and where
you can access educational content. This flexibility can be especially
valuable for individuals with busy schedules or those who prefer self-
paced learning.

Reduced Commute: Online learning eliminates the need for commuting

to a physical location, saving time and reducing travel expenses.

Cost Savings: Online courses can be cost-effective, as they often have

lower tuition fees than traditional in-person programs. Additionally, there
are no expenses related to commuting, housing, or dining on campus.

Cons:
Lack of In-Person Interaction: Online learning may lack the in-person
interactions that can be valuable for some students, particularly in building
relationships with peers and instructors.

Technology Challenges: Students need access to reliable internet and

appropriate devices for online learning, which can be a barrier for those
with limited resources or technical difficulties.

Self-Motivation Required: Online learning often requires a higher degree

of self-motivation and discipline to complete coursework and assignments
independently.

Face-to-Face Learning:
Pros:
In-Person Interaction: Traditional classroom settings facilitate real-time
interaction with instructors and peers, allowing for immediate feedback,
collaborative learning, and the development of communication skills.
Structured Environment: Face-to-face classes often provide a structured
learning environment with set schedules, which can help students stay
organized and on track.

Hands-On Learning: Certain subjects, such as laboratory work,

performing arts, or physical education, are better suited for in-person
instruction, as they require hands-on experience.

Cons:
Time and Commute: Commuting to and from campus can be time-
consuming and costly, especially for students who live off-campus or in
distant locations.

Higher Expenses: Traditional education often comes with higher tuition

fees, and students may incur additional expenses for housing, textbooks,
and other on-campus costs.

Limited Flexibility: Fixed class schedules and attendance requirements

can be less accommodating for students with job commitments or other
responsibilities.

j. If you were to go back in time, in what generation would you like to

travel to. Explain why?

I would most like to go back to the 1980s and 1990s when being
a Filipino was sensed and experienced daily. Any aspect of Filipino
culture is fantastic. Today, everyone bonds quite differently with their
family, friends, and special someone. Filipinos used to dress much
more elegantly than they do today. When teaching the fundamentals of
learning reading, writing, even handwriting, and how to hold pencils
properly teachers are very severe with their students. The modern
Filipino is somewhat less likely to be a disciplined child and is more
independent.
