Abstract: The descriptive study focused on the impact of mathematical skills on the

academic performance of Grade 11 students at the Philippine College of Science and

Technology during the school year 2023-2024. A total of 45 students from various

strands, particularly STEM students, were selected using simple random sampling. The

study aimed to explore the challenges faced by students in mathematics and how

acquiring efficient problem-solving skills could improve their academic performance.

Some of the students encountered difficulties in math, such as a lack of understanding,

overthinking, math anxiety, slower learning, or a combination of these factors. The

study's recommendations can help respondents develop better mathematics skills for

efficient problem-solving. In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of

addressing the challenges faced by students in mathematics and providing them with the
necessary support to develop efficient problem-solving skills. This can lead to improved

academic performance and better preparation for STEM careers.
