1. Survey and Related Studies- Jackfruit(Artocarpus heterophyllus) sap has the potential to be used
as an alternative glue. Researchers have explored the functional ingredients present in jackfruit tissues
and by-products, such as phenolics and pectin, which could be utilized in the pharmaceutical and
nutraceutic. According to Prem (2015), jackfruit has been a key source of nutrition for people in Asia, It
is considered as an invasive species in the Brazillian forest because jackfruit(Artocarpus
heterophyllus) competes with native trees. The jackfruit(Artocarpus heterophyllus) is "an
underutilized crop" in the tropical to subtropical climate where the most of food are wasted due to
ignorance. Jackfruit, scientifically known as Artocarpus heterophyllus, is a tropical fruit that is not only
consumed for its sweet, distinctive taste but also used for various industrial applications. One of the
less known uses of jackfruit is its potential as a source of adhesive or glue. Several studies have
highlighted the potential of natural resources as adhesives. Natural adhesives are preferred over
synthetic ones due to their eco-friendly nature and sustainability. Jackfruit being a rich source of latex,
is a promising candidate for natural adhesive production. The latex of the jackfruit tree has been found
to have adhesive properties. This sticky, milky substance that oozes out when the tree is cut or
damaged, has a high content of resins, which contributes to its stickiness. While the use of jackfruit
extract as a glue presents several benefits such as sustainability, non-toxicity, and biodegradability,
there are also challenges to be addressed. Thse include the standardization of extraction methods,
improving the adhesive strength to match synthetic adhesives, and ensuring a consistent supply of raw
materials. In conclusion, while more research is needed to fully understand and optimize the use of
jackfruit extract as a glue, the existing literature suggests that it holds great promise as a natural, eco-
friendly adhesive.
