According to research conducted by Taslima Akter and Jakia Parvin from the
Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology, the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh
entitled “Preparation of shoe polish from banana peels and proper utilization of solid
waste” (2018) This research study includes It is described by providing information on
how to make natural and eco-friendly shoe polish. Natural substance. Banana peel was
chosen as a crucial ingredient because many people believe it provides health benefits
and there is a lot of potentials. It is more natural and contains no poisonous or
hazardous ingredients. The primary focus of this article is on the minerals and nearby
composition, anti-nutritional content of banana peels; the presence of basic minerals
banana peel radicals; appropriate banana peel extraction process; shoe polish
preparation Finally, the qualities of shoe polish are used as an agent. This study
discusses the ethical It focuses on resource management across the manufacturing and
waste management processes. This is significant. demonstrates the trash-generating
process as well as its alternative application in another field.

According to Nico Solitana and Harold Huet (2020), the banana peelings from
Lacatan were the most effective when compared to other banana emotions. The
acceptability test was then used to compare its effectiveness to that of commercial shoe
polish. And the results of this test revealed that banana peelings as floor wax had no
discernible difference from commercial shoe polish. As a result, we conclude that
Lacatan banana peelings have the potential to be an alternative shoe polish cream.

Hibiscus Linn rosa-sinensis belongs to the Malvaceae family, colloquially known as

Chinese hibiscus or China rosa, and is a particular tropical hibiscus with attractive and
colorful flowers. Hibiscus plants are widely planted as ornamentals. It is used as an
antifertility agent, antiseptic, carminative, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiviral,
hypotensive, depressant, and depressant, in traditional medicine for the treatment of
skin disease. Similarly, as an emollient, demulcent, refrigerant, and aphrodisiac, flowers
also have medicinal value and have cosmetic use to stimulate hair growth, prevent hair
loss, premature graying, etc. Flower preparation demonstrates the antibacterial ability of
H. Rosa-sinensis L. Many chemical constituents has been reported. In wound healing, it
is also conventionally used. In order to prove its wound-healing activity, very less
scientific data are available in the literature. The present study was therefore aimed at
exploring H. antimicrobial and wound healing activity, rosa-sinensis L., extract gel
formulation. (Gandhi, et al. 2018)

Gumamela extract will be used as a substitute ingredient in making Shoe polish that is
native here in the Philippines. The Gumamela is a kind of plant commonly native to
Southeast Asia and the western Pacific Ocean Islands. Gumamela is a shrub that grows
from one meter up to four meters high. Gumamela is also known as Hibiscus, China
Rose, and Shoe flower. In the Philippines, gumamela is cultivated as an ornamental
plant. The gumamela flower comes in many colors: red, yellow, orange, white, purple,
pink, and other color combinations. The Gumamela is widely cultivated for food
purposes. Also, it can be used in cuisine and traditional medicine. This product will help
the consumer in their daily lives not only in money but also it can be a business for them
to give some additional income. This product is easy to make without wasting so much
time. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis has a number of medical uses in Chinese herbology. In the
Indian traditional system of medicine, Ayurveda, hibiscus, especially white hibiscus and
red hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis), is considered to have medicinal properties. The
roots are used to make various concoctions believed to cure ailments such as cough,
hair loss or hair greying. A Research paper entitled “Effectiveness of Gumamela Extract
as Shoes Polisher” conducted by Amulung National High School students; Crisang,
Christian D., Gorospe, Marc Jaylord B., Antonio, Angel C., Antonio, Kathrina G., Huyad,

Marjorie G. Dela Cruz, Irish Joy R. Dela Vega, Jean Pauline H. Layug, Ralp
Lawrence B. Perez (2022). The researchers confirmed that banana peel can be made
into shoe polish but the commercial shoe polish has a slight difference from the banana
(Musa Paradisiaca) peel shoe polish. Therefore, it can only serve as an alternative shoe
polish [8]. And said the possibility of future research as an active ingredient for shoe
polish. It was concluded that there is a significant difference between the performances of
the shoe polish made of coconut husk ash with banana peel extract and the
commercialized shoe. There was a distinction between the shoe polish out in the market
and the shoe polish made of coconut husk ash with banana peel extract in terms of
general properties- despite of all adjustments in materials and ingredients, researchers
did. Yet, it can only serve as an alternative to commercialized shoe polish.

According to Caldito J. (2019) Shoe polish, sometimes known as boot polish, is a

waxy paste, cream, or liquid that is used to polish, shine, and waterproof leather shoes
in order to extend their life, restore, and improve their appearance. It is made up of fats,
lipids, and wax. The lipids in the leather make it smooth and supple. While the wax
keeps dirt and moisture at bay.

According to Crisostomo J. (2020), The analytic outcome of a study suggested

that the banana peeling of lacatan, a type of banana found in the Philippines, has the
potential to be an alternative shoe polish cream. The enormous leaves of the banana
can be used as umbrellas, among other things, because it has various purposes. She
suggested additional testing or a more specific ratio of banana peel extract for the
sufficiency it will provide.
According to the research entitled “Shoe Polish out of Banana Peel Extract”, by
Gabrielle, Balanon, Tannin, an astringent that is an important ingredient in the process of
tanning leather, can be found in Banana peels. This makes it an efficient ingredient for
making shoe polish. I also decided to use Banana peels because there is a significant
amount of banana peel waste being generated all around the world, so instead of just
throwing them away and letting them rot, it’s better to put them to good use. The materials
and ingredients needed for my research are very easy to get a hold of and don’t cost
much as well. The process of making the product won’t take long either. It is a very
affordable and effective product. It goes to show that Banana peels are more than just a
part of the classic physical comedy slapstick visual gag, the "slipping on a banana peel"
because it can actually make your shoes shine.

Shoe polish is a product used to shine, polish, and protect leather footwear. Polishing
shoes will increase their life span. In present times, everybody always used shoe
polishers for their shoes to look presentable and fabulous to walk with attractive thus
boosting more confidence in their beholder. But not everyone knows that traditional
shoe polish which is available in the market made of harmful chemicals and synthetic
ingredients which has a bad door. Since it uses petroleum as its basis it is also
flammable which makes it dangerous to human health and may cause some hazards
like fires. The banana peel is known for its antifungal and antibiotic properties. The peel
is also loaded with a lot of Vitamins, minerals, and fiber Many articles and pamphlets
say that banana peel is even effective in shining and smoothening surfaces like shoes
made up of leather. Shinana “Shine your shoe with Banana", Utilization of Banana Peel
to create shoe polisher by Honorado, Alpha Z. (2021).
