ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Students explained that ‘Special Relationships’ is the theme of Unit
4. Students asked to work n groups to discuss any special
relationships that they have and to think of many different kinds
relationships as possible. Students asked to turn to page 43 and to
look at the picture and read the accompany caption. Students
asked what is unusual about the picture and for their reaction to it.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity A(page 44)
1. Students asked to keep their books closed and they asked
what jobs animals can do. Students make a list on the
board of as many jobs as possible and write the animals
that do them by each one. Students asked to turn to page
44 and to discuss pictures 1-3 with a partner to say which
dogs are ‘working’. Each pair asked to report what they
said to the class and to justify their answers. Any
differences of opinions accepted as long as students can
provide a logical explanation for their answers.
Activity B(page 44)
1. Students asked to read the instructions and they
encouraged to refer back to the list of jobs that animals
can do that they made earlier to help them here. Students
asked to make a list on their own and then to compare
their list with a partner’s.
Activity C(page 44)
1. Students asked to read the instructions and they asked
which information from the text they know already.
Students asked to look at the pictures that accompany the
text and the paragraph headings and they asked what
other information they think they will read about.

ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Students played a game to review vocabulary from the previous
lesson. The words in the ‘Word Focus’ box on page 44 of SB is
included.
LESSON DELIVERY Activity D(page 45)
1. Students read the information in the Exam Close-up box
and explained anything they don’t understand. Students
explained that sometimes they will read a text which will
have words in it that they have not seen before.
2. Students asked to read the Exam task and underline
keywords in the ten sentences that will help them find the
answers in the text. Students asked to read the
instructions and questions 1-10 in the Exam Task again
and answer any questions they might have.
Activity E(page 45)
1. Students read the words in the yellow word box and their
pronunciation corrected where necessary. Students asked
to find the underlined words in the text. They reminded to
look at the meaning words in context to help them decide
which word has which meaning.

in the top right-hand corner and the other should describe

closed during these discussions. Then students asked to open the
Student’s book and to compare their ideas with the ideas in the
‘Learning Focus’ box on page 52. Questions elicited from the
students to check their understanding of what they have read.

asked to repeat them. Their pronunciations repeated where
necessary. Students asked to read through sentences 1-6
without writing any answers and think about which of the
