Project 01
The landscape continues to be one of the most defining aspects of an institution’s identity and
has profound impacts on the quality of daily life for students, faculty and staff.
You will design the outdoor area in the premise of Azm campus, lying between the parking and
JAFA main entrance, to be transformed into a landscaped recreational zone.
Think of how to engage the campus including the links to the two buildings in direct context, plus
the lower pedestrian and vehicular entrances within the design, in terms of ease of navigation
and wayfinding, while enhancing Azm brand identity.

FIGURE 1: SITE PLAN
Start by:
- Understanding the site: the site gives valuable input which can be used in the design. The
inherent qualities can be physical or social and can include notions such as collective
memory or use. Site investigation should address the current problems and investigates
the conceivable potentials.
- Generating the Big idea: the concept allows one main idea to conduct the design.
Conceptual sketches and diagrams incite the design formation. In parallel, the site
program shall complement the ideation.
- Developing the concept: composing the Landscape Design Plan, with layout and
typologies of softscapes and hardscapes. You will produce architectural drawings like
sections and elevations, in addition to 3D visualization tools.
In reference to lecture 06: Design Components & Principles in Landscape & lecture 07: 10 Notions
on Landscape Architecture, you are required to apply the lessons learned from the lectures in the
three forementioned phases.
- How can the landscape shape and enhance the campus experience?
- What landscape design elements and functions can help elevate the outdoor experience
and draw more people in?
