Ethical communication refers to communicating clearly, concisely, truthfully, and responsibly. It promotes honesty, fairness, responsibility, integrity, and respect for people and society. Unethical communication endangers people and social cohesion. People should be accountable for malicious, false, hateful, or violent communications and states are recognizing this, especially regarding social media. The story demonstrates accepting responsibility, as the fruit seller replaces damaged bananas as promised in his store posting.

Ethical communication refers to communicating in a manner that is clear, concise,
truthful, and responsible.
In their Credo for Ethical Communication, the US National Communication Association (NVCA,1999) addresses this and claims that “Ethical communication is vital for responsible thinking and decision-making inside and beyond contexts, cultures, channels, and media.” Furthermore, ethical communication promotes honesty, fairness, responsibility, personal integrity, and respect for oneself and others, which raises human value and dignity. We believe that unethical communication jeopardizes the integrity of all verbal exchanges, endangering both people’s personal welfare and the fabric of our society. All too often, there have been people who do not feel accountable for their actions. Therefore, if one risks to communicate maliciously, spread false news, or incite hatred or violence, he or she should be ready to face the consequences of such actions. States are beginning to realize this, especially in the porous medium of social media. Script for role play Narrator: It’s Friday afternoon when Justin just arrives home after their class. As you witness their presentation, it shows the 4 th ethical principles of communication
which is, accept responsibility for the short- and long term consequences of our own communication and expect the same of others (NCA, 1999). Where the seller is responsible for what he posted in his store that if there is an damage fruit they bought in his store, he will replace it. That’s all and thank you.
