INTRODUCTION

1.1 MEANING OF HOSTEL:

Hostel is a place where the students stay away from their home in the institution. A hostel
presents altogether different physical, social, psychological and philosophical environment
compare to home environment. The students who stay away from their parents in the hostels
are known as hostellers.

In some other countries the word ‘hostel’ is specifically used for the accommodation of
students and travelers. However, in India, a hostel is believed to be a place of residence that a
school, colleges or universities has, where all hostels are supervised by the wardens and other
staff. The hostels consist of number of students. All of them make a group of hostellers.
These students come from different ethical, social, geographical and economic background.
The hostel is a place where students stay for pursuing formal education away from their
homes. But the concept of hostel is not only limited to a place of residence, hostel is a human
practical laboratory. Therefore, hostel is not simply a place of living but it is a centre of
education. Students learn as much from their teachers/lectures as well as from their fellow
mates during hostel stay. It enriches the understanding of the curriculum through analytical
discussion among the students living in the hostel incurs lots and many types of
miscellaneous expenditure apart from the hostel mess fees, securities, etc. They naturally
learn to adopt a way to manage finance. On the other hand, students also learn coverage and
spirit from other students, and that may help students face to face the practical life more
efficiently and confidently.

1
1.2 IMPORTANCE OF HOSTEL

A hostel is a place full of students. It is like a family of students where the head of the family
is a student and the members are the students. In a hostel, students learn a lot of things and
values. They learned about friendship and also about fellow feelings. They also learn about
the importance of discipline. A hostel is a place that develops a sense of responsibility in
every student. Here is an article on importance of hostel life:

 Less judgment
 Living in the budget
 Focus on studying
 Appreciating little things

Some people think a hostel is a good place and some think that a hostel is a bad place. As we
all know that everything has two faces. Similarly, hostel life also has two sides.

It is both good and bad. It is good because hostel life teaches us about many things like
helping others, teamwork, unity, adjustment, caring about others, and sharing things. During
hostel life, a student learns about a lot of good things.

Hostel life is also a bad thing because some students are also vulnerable to the bad influence.
Some students think that they are away from home and that is why they can do anything.
They start smoking, drinking, having drugs, and many other things which are not good.

1.3 ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF HOSTEL LIFE

 A hostel is a place where most students stay at a minimum cost for study purposes.
Hostels are built to provide the students with shelter and other basic necessities for
daily life.
 Life in a hostel is an experience that turns out to be a great one or the worst one that
entirely depends upon the person living there.
 One can rejoice their hostel days forever, but in some cases, it might turn out to be the
worst nightmare.
 One should not get diverted into partying and stuff along with their peers.

2
2.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The motive behind carrying out this research is to study the financial positions of the hostel
and the perception of different students regarding private hostels and to ascertain the
organizational structure and performance of the hostel. This research provides importance
and values of financial management for both the students and management for the better
functioning of the hostel and financial management will improve.

2.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY:

 To study the organizational structure and performance.

 To study the financial performance of the management.
 To study the perception of different students regarding private hostel.

2.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:

 This research will enable to ascertain the organizational structure and performance of
the hostel.
 It will help us ascertain the perception of different students regarding private hostel.
 This research provides importance and values of financial management.

2.4 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:

Research methodology is the specific procedures or techniques used to identify select,

process and analyze information about a topic. In a research paper, the methodology section
allows the reader to critically evaluate a study’s overall validity and reliability. The
methodology section answers two main questions: How was the data collected or generated?
How was it analyzed?

3
2.5 SAMPLE FRAMEWORK:

Since it was difficult to know the whole performance of Vivid Boy’s Hostel it becomes
necessary to take sample from the hostellers and the management. For this project, sample of
30 respondents were selected and 13 questions were prepared for the students and 8 questions
for the management.

2.6 COLLECTION OF DATA:

The collection of data is considered to be one of the important aspects in the research
methodology. In this study, two types of data collection method are used-primary and
secondary data collection.

Primary data- In primary data, data’s were collected through a preparation of

questionnaires.

Secondary data- In secondary collection, the data’s are being collected from other source
like magazine, internet, prospectus, etc.

2.7 LIMITATIONS:

 The study was done on simple basis and the data collected might not be accurate as
students have different views and opinions.
 Some of the student response was not up to the expectations.
 Only limited questionnaires were prepared.
 Some of the data’s were taken on the base of personal experience.
 Due to time constraint.

4
2.8 DESIGN OF THE STUDY:

The entire study is presented in the form of a project report under the following chapters:

 CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
This chapter includes a brief introduction of the subject research. It includes, Meaning
of the hostel, Importance of the hostel and advantages and disadvantages of hostel
life.

4.1 INTRODUCTION

Analysis and Interpretation refers to a systematic and critical examination of the financial
statements. It not only establishes cause and effect relationship among the various items of
the financial statements but also presents the data in a proper manner. The main purpose of
Analysis and Interpretation is to present the data in such a manner that is easily
understandable and self explanatory.

Data analysis and interpretation is the process of assigning meaning to the collected
information and determining the conclusions, significance and exciting step in the process of
research. In all research studies, analysis follows data collected. Proper implementation of
data analysis processes can provide with profound advantages.

Marshall and Rossman describe data analysis as the process of bringing order, structure and
meaning to the mass of collected data. It is described as messy, ambiguous and time
consuming, but also as a creative and fascinating process. Broadly speaking –while it does
not proceed in linear fashion –it is the activity of making sense of interpreting and theorizing
data that signifies a search for general statements among categories of data. Therefore, one
could infer that data analysis requires some sort or form of logic applied to research. In this
regard, Best and Khan clearly posit that the analysis and interpretation of the data represent
the application of deductive and inductive logic to the research.

4.2 OVERALL CONTROL

Overall control is the process or procedures that regulate, guide, and protect an organization.

CONCLUSION:

26
The project was carried out for the purposes of studying the performance of Vivid Boy’s
Hostel, Jakhama. It was found that the mess fee is as same as the others comparing to the
other private hostels in Jakhama. The hostel’s structural and functional system is also good
and so it satisfies the students except on some facility like networking facility, medical
facility and mess facility where some improvement are needed. It was found out that the time
table of the hostel is good enough and satisfies the students except on some conditions like
break hour. The study hour provided is also sufficient and the students were satisfied.

Thus, from the above line we can clearly say that the performance of Vivid Boy’s Hostel is
good enough and thus it will satisfy the students and will have only minimum problems
where, after the improvement on those problems it will not have any complaints. So the
management should have to look after the problems and try to remove those problems for the
better functioning of the hostel.

SUGGESTIONS:

27
1) According to the study sometimes there should be change in the style of cooking.
2) According to the respondents the medical facility should be improved.
3) According to the study musical facility should be provided.
4) According to the study Wi-Fi should be provided.
5) According to the respondents indoor games facility should be provided.
6) The communication between the management and the hostellers should be improved.
7) According to the study management should focus on the overall customer satisfaction.
