MEETING MINUTES:

Professor Eliot Borenstein began the meeting with the announcement of his new position as Interim Vicе
Chancellor & Senior Vice Provost for Global Programs. Professor Borenstein also announced that
Marianne Petit (Associate Vice Chancellor for Global Network Academic Planning) will forthcomingly
assume his role as the Chair of the Faculty Committee on NYU’s Global Network (FacGN).
Those in attendance included members of the FacGN, the Tenured/Tenure Track Faculty Senators
Council (T-FSC), and the Full-Time Continuing Contract Faculty Senators Council (C-FSC). Borenstein
explained that the purpose of convening the joint meeting was to make sure that all three committees
work in concert.

Attendees from NYU-Shanghai brought to the faculty committees’ attention some Shanghai faculty
concerns, particularly those related to its move to its new campus. It was felt by the consensus of the
three global faculty committees that some of these problems might be alleviated by providing faculty at
NYU-Shanghai with more information and by engaging them in greater and productive consultation, in
accordance with NYU faculty governance. A consensus of meeting attendees requested that a subgroup
consisting of Brian Hall, Steve Iams, and Sylvain Cappell prepare a letter to send to the NYU
Administration. The attendees expressed a desire for the letter to be sent out quickly. A draft of the letter
was circulated to the attendees on Thursday, February 23rd. One hundred percent of those who
responded to the draft expressed their support. The finalized letter was circulated to the NYU
Administration on Friday, February 24th.

The meeting concluded with a consensus that a regular joint meeting between the three committees
should happen once a year, and will be coordinated by the FacGN. There was also a consensus that
ad-hoc joint meetings should be held as needed for urgent matters, and can be initiated by any of the
three committees. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45am.
