Cümle başında ya da ortasında kullanılabilir, kendinden önce virgül alabilir.

• NOT: Whereas, arkasından gelen cümleye bağlı olmadan “oysa, halbuki” olarak da
kullanılabilir.

Bu kullanımıyla “haricinde, dışında” anlamına gelir.
