Bulletin E290.

1. Collect DAVIE4 data:

A. Connect DAVIE4 and collect the following data and test results before performing the cleaning
procedure:
o DAVIE4 Session Report – Detailed View (before any testing)
o Leave DAVIE4 hooked up to the truck for the duration of this procedure.

NOTE

On MY2023 vehicles, check component group 1020. If the software number is 2397180, the vehicle has
NA31 RC1 software. Do not perform injector calibration on these vehicles. See Software Change Notice
RC1 for Model Year 2023 for more information.

B. Run the DAVIE4 Check Fuel System Health test – Save this test result for use later in this
procedure.

2. Replace Fuel Filters

A. Replace both fuel filters according to the procedure in RMI. See E306 for more information on
fuel filter replacement procedures.

NOTE

DO NOT Prime the fuel system at this point.

Fuel system will be primed with cleaning solution in step 4, below.

3. Install fuel system cleaning tool:

A. Disconnect chassis supply and return lines from fuel filtration module.
B. Connect PN2281101PE or PN1961366-1CH cleaning tool supply and return lines to fuel filtra-
tion module.

4. Prime fuel system with cleaning solution.

A. Ensure that the cleaning tool hoses are submerged in the cleaning solution.
B. Operate the hand prime pump on the fuel module until pumping resistance increases.

5. Perform the fuel system cleaning:

A. Start the engine and run at idle for 1 minute.
B. Increase idle to 1200 rpm and run for 20 minutes.
C. Stop engine.

6. Start engine and run 3 DAVIE4 Check Fuel System Health tests back-to-back.
A. Use DAVIE4 to perform the tests.

NOTE

DAVIE4 Check Fuel System Health test will raise pressures in the common rail and injectors, aiding in the
cleaning of deposits.

B. Do not save or attach the DAVIE4 results of the 3 tests run in this step.
C. Stop engine. (Leave DAVIE4 connected)

7. Remove cleaning tool from engine:

A. Disconnect the cleaning tool supply and return lines from the fuel filtration module.
B. Connect chassis fuel supply and return lines to the fuel filtration module.
C. Start the engine and run at idle for 1 minute to flush the concentrated cleaner from the module.

8. Perform and review DAVIE4 tests to verify successful cleaning:

A. Perform DAVIE4 Verify the injector calibration procedure.

NOTE

• If vehicle has NA31 RC1 software, do not perform injector calibration procedure.
• If the calibration procedure was performed and DAVIE4 displays “Service is not run for the specific
cylinder” for all 6 cylinders, disregard the results and continue with this procedure.

B. Perform DAVIE4 Check Fuel System Health test (collection hoses do NOT need to be in-
stalled). – Save this test result for reference if a second cleaning is necessary.
C. Review DAVIE4 Check Fuel System Health test result. Average unbalance of each individual
cylinder should be ±6 rpm in the stable phase of test (18-37 seconds). The result examples be-
low show example before and after results of a successful cleaning.

9. If during the stable phase of the test (see test examples above), the average unbalance of the
cylinder(s) does NOT deviate more than ±6 rpm, skip to step 11:

10. If during the stable phase of the test, the average unbalance of the cylinder(s) deviates more
than ±6 rpm, perform the following:
A. Perform the cleaning procedure (steps 3 through 8, above) a second time. Internal injector deposits
may require a second cleaning to be completely flushed. Fuel filters DO NOT need to be changed
again if a second cleaning is required.
B. Perform step 8, above to obtain results of second cleaning. Save this test result.

 If cylinder unbalance is still out-of-spec after the second cleaning, REPLACE ONLY UNBALANCED
INJECTORS per the appropriate RMI injector replacement procedures.
• For MX-13, use PN 2394548PEX
• For MX-11, use PN 2394547PEX

NOTE

• Fuel Filters do NOT need to be replaced again during injector replacement in a single service
event IF new filters were installed during step 2 of this procedure.
• Reuse all fuel injection pipes if possible.
• Fuel injection pipes must be inspected according to RMI reuse guidelines.
• After injector replacement, perform the DAVIE4 Check Fuel System Health test to check for
fuel leaks, while system operates at high pressure, before releasing the vehicle.

 Save results of ALL completed tests to attach to warranty claim for injector replacement.
• This should be 3 tests – Initial baseline, After cleaning #1, After cleaning #2

11. Repair verification:

A. Return to RMI to perform repair verification.
