Extension/Reflection Questions
1. How can you predict the hatching period
Sugested answer: You have to use a recording chart to monitor and predict the  
hatching period
2. What are the different techniques in harvesting pupae?
Suggested Answer:  
-Using water sprayer and blade
3. How does the rearing condition affect the hatching and harvesting time of
pupae and butterfly?
 
4. What are the basic methods of catching butterflies?
 
Suggested Answer: Using net or trap
5. Why is a butterfly without forelegs useless for breeding?

Suggested Answer: Once caught the butterfly should be carefully taken out of the
net with the wings folded, holding it between thumb and forefinger so that all four
wings are held together. Be careful not to pull the butterfly away from the net
sharply, the tiny claws on the end of the legs can easily become entangled in the
net, and it can lose a leg.
2. What is the maximum travel time for traveling the live butterfly? Why?  
Suggested Answer:
 
Contingency Questions
1. What will you do if the live butterfly that you had just harvested seemed to  
be weak?
2. What will you do if pupae pupate in hanging position?  
Suggested Answers: Find the edge of the silk by scraping the silk pad ffrom the
base of the pupa and removing it from its support.
