Poultry Housing and Facilities


Laboratory Exercise No. 2
I. Rationale
The course requirement of the AnSci222 or the introduction to livestock and poultry production
course was to raise any poultry species intended for meat or egg production. The participants
may choose among the poultry species such as broiler chicken, native chicken, duck, turkey,
geese or quail to raise based on their preference and the availability. The laboratory exercise
no. 2 in Poultry Housing and Facilities was the first step to undertake in order to accomplish the
course requirement, which is the raising of poultry animals.

II. Objectives
At the end of the activity, the students must have:
1. Identified the floor space requirement of the different poultry animals;
2. Identified the feeder and waterer space requirement of the different poultry animals;
3. Created the feeder and waterer of the chosen poultry animal and;
4. Constructed the house/cage of the chosen poultry animal.
III. Methodology
1. Choose among the poultry animals that you are going to raise in your home. Consider
the availability of the poultry animal you choose to raise.
2. Research for the floor space requirement of your chosen poultry animal.
3. Research for the feeder and waterer space requirement of your chosen poultry animal.
4. Collect all needed materials (hammer, nail, wood, PVC, nepa, bamboo, etc) to create
and construct the waterer, feeder and poultry house/cage.
5. Create your own round feeder for five birds of your chosen poultry animal.
6. Create your own waterer for five birds of your chosen poultry animal.
7. Construct your poultry house or cage with the capacity of 5 birds of your chosen poultry
animal.

IV. Result and Observation

1. Space Requirement of Chicken


Floor Space Requirement

 the floor space required for each of the chicken is 45 cm.


Waterer Space Requirement

 the waterer space required for each of the chicken is 4 cm


Feeder Space Requirement

 the feeder space required for each of the chicken is 5cm.


The measurement of floor, waterer and feeder space requirement is based on the cage
constructed.

 Our observation to this laboratory is that all things become easy to accomplish
when you cooperate, collaborate and unite with your groupmates. With this kind
of attitude you have, it is really possible to accomplish any task given
immediately. Overall, thanks to Him who gave us the strength we needed.
