A Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Science

Third Quarter Week 1

Grade 5 - Diamond
9:30-10:30AM
Teacher: Ronald S. Monez

I. Objectives:
At the end of the period, the pupils should be to:
1. Identifying roles of organisms as producers, consumers, decomposers and
scavengers in the ecosystem; and
2. Differentiate producers, consumers, decomposers and scavengers.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Roles of Organisms
Reference: Degolacion, R., Agtarap, M., Nery, MF., & Pasiliao, A. (2017). Soaring
2nd edition. 21st Century Science 5. Pheonix Publishing House, INC.,
Quezon City, Philippines.
Materials: Modules, white board and white board pen.
Value: To appreciate the value of organisms

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
B. Motivation
1. Ask the students to give organisms that they are familiar with.
2. Ask them how these organisms get their food.
3. Ask them how these organisms interact with other organisms.
C. Presentation
1. Discuss each role of organisms and give examples through pictures.
2. Discuss the different types of consumers.

Producers – are the organisms that make their own food and energy source of
other organisms.

tree algae flower grass

Consumers - are organisms that cannot make their own food and they eat other
living things to survive.
fox goat cat rabbit

Types of consumers
Herbivores – animals that eat only plants.

rabbit goat horse

Carnivores – animals that eat only meat.

lion tiger polar bear

Omnivores – animals that eat both plants and meat.

human duck dog

Decomposers – are organisms that break down the remains of dead organism into
simpler substance.

Bacteria fungi

Scavengers – are organisms that eat dead animals.

vulture hyena crow

IV. Application
1. Ask the pupils to give examples on the different roles of organisms.
2. Ask the pupils to give examples on the different types of consumers.
