Science: Classification of Animals

(Herbivores, Carnivores,Omnivores)
Prepared by: Liza B. Nalla

Objectives:
At the end of the discussion, the student would be able to:
a. to define what are the distinct group of Animal
b. to distinguish the important of Herbivores, Carnivores, Omnivores in the ecosystem
c. to identify the animal if it is a Herbivores, Carnivores, or Omnivores

Introduction:
Animals of all kinds live together in a one various ecosystem, the animals fall into three
distinct groups based on the food that they eat. There are animals that only eat plants and thats what
we called Herbivores, an animal that eat other animal or meat are called Carnivores, and the animals
that eat both Plants and meat are called Omnivores.

Lets talk more about Herbivores, Carnivores and Omnivores.

Herbivores- any animals that eat only plant can be classified as a herbivore. Herbivore usually have
flat teeth for chewing their food. The good example of herbivores are

Guinea Pig Rabbit Snail

But just because herbivore don’t eat meat doesn't mean they are only small. The good example for
this are
Horse Deer Elephant

Carnivores- animals that eat meat are classified as Carnivores , they often to have a sharper teeth or
fangs to help them to tear their food. Most of the time the carnivores play as predator in the
ecosystem.
Example for carnivores are :

Spider Frogs Tiger

Omnivores - any animals that eat both plants and animals are classified as Omnivores. Many
omnivores have the combination of sharp and flat teeth to consume their food.

Human Bear Chicken

What is the importance of Herbivores, Carnivores, Omnivores in Ecosystem.

Within these natural environment the animals eat specific diets that connect them together in Food
Chain. Herbivores and Omnivores will be eaten by Carnivores and some Carnivores can be also
consumed by Carnivores. A natural community depends on the presence of Carnivores to control the
population of other animals.
The balance of an ecosystem depends on the presence of every type of animal.
