ALERT
Please be advised that during a routine maintenance inspection, an operator in Australia recently
found that an engine nacelle rivet had been erroneously driven into the main wing front spar cap,
consequently compromising spar integrity. Following an in-depth investigation, VulcanAir has
excluded that this event was the result of an error in the design or manufacture of the aircraft.
Since there have been instances where the implementation of mandatory Service Bulletins to keep
the aircraft airworthy, called for the removal of the nacelle/cowl, our hypothesis is that the above
mentioned error could have occurred during re-assembly of the removed parts.
Although so far this incident appears to be a "one of type", VulcanAir recommends that at the next
programmed maintenance inspection, the upper and lower lateral cowlings on both sides of each
engine are removed and the nacelle/cowl blind rivets are checked for correct positioning. To this
purpose, a drawing illustrating the correct rivet alignment is attached herein.
Please take a moment to inform VulcanAir of your findings by filling in the attached form and
forwarding it to us in the manner that most suits your convenience, at the address or numbers below:
