Materials :
For dolls and hedgehog :
• 4 different color yarns (to crochet the head/body/dress/shoes)- I use cotton yarn 8/4
• 2,25 mm or 2,5 mm crochet hook (depending on your tension)
• Needles for sewing
• 2 x black safety eyes (Ø 6 mm) or black yarn to embroider the eyes
• 2 x black safety eyes (Ø 4 mm) for the hedgehog or black yarn to embroider the eyes
• Grey cotton yarn for the hedgehog
• A contrasting colored sewing thread for the "marbled" effect of the hedgehog's peaks
• Polyester toy stuffing
The finished doll (using the materials listed) measure approximately 26 cm. And the hedgehog 8 cm.
ch : chain stitch
slst : slip stitch
sc : single crochet
hdc : half double crochet
inc : increase (2 stitches into 1 stitch of previous round)
dec : decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)
BLO : working in back loop only
(…) : repeat until end
Each piece is crocheted in a continuous spiral, not in joined rounds, starting off
with a magic loop. Use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round (a piece
of contrasting yarn can be used if you don’t have any stitch markers).
At the end of each line, you will find the number of stitches you should have in
brackets.
Legs, body and head are worked in a single piece (bottom-up).
Please ensure that you stuff your doll firmly as you go. I used a thin wooden stick to stuff the smaller pieces.
Always change your yarn in the last step of the last stitch.
The doll : With two colors, white (socks and panty) and beige (body, head and arms)
Start with the legs : white (socks) and beige thread (legs).
✴ Change your yarn in the last step of the last stitch.
1 White 7 sc in magic ring (7)
Crochet the 2nd leg in the same way and join the white thread
in the last step of the last stitch (see note "color change”).
Don’t forget to stuff the legs as you go.
Once you have completed the 2nd leg, crochet 4 chain and join it to the 1st leg with a sc (counts as the first sc)
and proceed to crochet the body:
17 24 sc around (24)
19 20 sc around (20)
Head : The head will now be crocheted as follow right after you finish
the body, with the beige thread.
Tips : For more stability in the neck, you can slide a pipe cleaner (or
chenille wire) into the opening.
Particularly recommended for the doll Sidonie whose wig is very heavy to wear.
The border on the sock is embroidered all around round 15 with the white thread.
Join the yarn with a slst and crochet (1sc and 1slst) in each stitches around through the front loop.
Cut the yarn and close the round invisible.
The border on the panty is embroidered all around round 9 with the white thread : Join the yarn with a slst and crochet
loosely 1slst in each stitches around through the front loop (32). Cut the yarn and close the round invisible.
14-17 Fancy stitch : [(1sc, 1dc) in same stitch, skip 1 stitch] (54)
repeat until the end of the round (4 rounds)
Fasten off, leave a tail to sew the hat onto the head at round 19 (front).
Pop the hat on and secure it with pins, letting the braids out
on each side. Sew the hat with small stitches all around the
head (at round 19).
Do not cut the thread and continue by crocheting loops on each of the rounds of
the wig in the front loop :
Insert the hook into the front loop of the last stitch of round 13. Skip 1st, then 4slst
Crochet ch 15, then- start in the 2° chain from the hook- 1sc, 1inc (x7) along
the chain to form a „swirl“. Skip 1 st and make 4slst in the next 4 stitches (see
photo). Repeat this pattern (making the ch after the 4° slst) up to round 4 of the
wig. On the last four rounds, make ch 13, 1sc, 1inc (x6). Skip 1 st and 3slst in
the next 3 stitches. Repeat up to the top of the wig.
Finish the work with a slst, cut the yarn and fasten off. Loops: ch15 then (1sc, inc) x7
Put the wig in place, and sew it onto the head following the contour border (at
round 21). Cut the yarn and fasten off.
Place the loops in the right position by "swirling" them.
1 Chain 25 (25)
8 Join both ends with a slst and work now in rounds (do (48)
not start with a chain stitch): (1(hdc)inc, 1hdc) x16
Finish the work with a slst, cut the yarn and close the round invisible.
Using a tapestry needle, embroider small white flowers with 3 petals on the
skirt by spacing them 6 stitches and 2 rows apart (see photo).
Sidonie’s dress :
Crocheted in the same way as Emilie’s dress using white color.
Once the dress is finished, embroider with a tapestry needle the
green stripes using back stitches, horizontally between rows 7 and 8, 9 and 10,
11 and 12, 13 and 14, 15 and 16. Then vertically by spacing them 3 stitches apart
to form the squares. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Back stitch :
15 8sc, dec (x3) (27) Stuff the body firmly as you go.
Embroider (or attach) the eyes at round 5 with a
16 7sc, dec (x3) (24) distance of 3 stitches.
Embroider the nose with black yarn.
17 2sc, dec (x6) (18)
Take the cotton thread and the contrasting colored sewing thread (which will
be crocheted together) and attach them with a slst to the back of the body.
Then crochet the "peaks" forming
chain 4 loops and fix them with
1slst in the next stitch :
R1-10 : ch4, 1slst ; repeat until
the end of the round 10.
