SOME USEFUL HINTS

1. Before you start, make sure you have the latest version of this pattern (found on the title page). Check the website
www.zabbez.com for any errata on your version.
2. Crochet tightly so you get a clean and firm surface and no filling can shine through. If you crochet very loose, choose
a smaller hook size.
3. Using the stated hook size and yarns, your doll will turn out about 36 cm (14 inch) from the feet to the top of the
head.
4. You can choose a different kind of yarn with a different gauge. Adjust hook size accordingly. The measurement of the
doll will also change.
5. Fill the doll with soft stuffing firmly as you go. The firmer you stuff, the firmer your doll will turn out.
6. The entire doll is worked in spirals.
7. And don’t forget, have fun!

Now you are going to crochet the two legs together. Start by laying the two legs together with leg 1 on the right side and
leg 2 on the left side. The working yarn from leg 2 is now in the middle. The feet are pointing slightly outwards (fig 1).
Remove your hook from the working yarn and insert it from the inside out in stitch 10 of the right leg. Pull the loop from
the left leg through. Your legs are now connected (fig 2). Now using this loop as your first loop on the hook, insert your
hook in stitch 1 of the left leg (fig 3) and make your first single crochet. This is the beginning of your new round. Continue
to crochet round 32 of the body (fig 4).

Tip: If your legs don’t meet the right position on stitch 1 and 10, be sure to fasten off both legs, adjust the legs in the right
position and start the joining round with a new loop in between the legs.

CAP
How to make a prickle stitch
A prickle stitch is a small chain that is pulled to the front of the work to form a prickle.

1 2 3 4

Insert hook into next stitch, YO, pull yarn through (loops on hook = 2) (fig 1), [YO, pull through 1 loop] x5 (loops on hook
= 2) (fig 2), YO, pull yarn through all 2 loops (fig 3). Now pull the chain of stitches to the front of your work and continue
to crochet as normal in the next stitch (fig 4).

TIP: If you find it difficult to make a prickle stitch, you can also substitute it with a regular single crochet and sew on a
separate prickle afterwards. Crochet a separate prickle by making a chain of 6, fold it double, and sew it in place.

EARFLAPS
To make the first earflap you are going to continue to crochet in rows.
Make a turning chain after each row.

# Row Make a turning chain after each row.

the earflap.

Make the second earflap: On round 22 of the cap, skip 12 stitches to the left of the first earflap, insert your hook into the
13th stitch and pull up a loop. Continue to crochet the second earflap the same way by repeating row 23-31. FO and add
some fringe on the end of the earflap.

5 6 7 8

Take a piece of cardboard and cut it to about 6 cm (2.5 inch) wide or approximately the same height as the cap. Wrap
your purple yarn 500 times around the cardboard. This is about 3/4 of a 50grams skein (fig 5). Take a pair of scissors and
cut through one side of the yarn so you get 500 strands of 12 cm (4.75 inch) yarn. Lay them down flat and tie a few
strings of yarn around exactly in the middle. Tie it really tight (fig 6). Now fold all the yarn strands up (fig 7) and
temporarily tie a string around so you get a tassel (fig 8). This string will be removed later on.

9 10 11 12

Insert the tassel in the top of the cap, up to round 8 (fig 9). Sew the tassel and the cap together (fig 10). Make sure you
sew it thoroughly all the way through the tassel so it is securely fixed. Remove the temporary string around the tassel.
Now it is time to give Tim a haircut and shape the thistle flower (fig 11). Don’t be afraid to cut. The purple flower needs to
be about half the height of the cap so take your scissors and cut away. After the haircut you are all done (fig 12).

TIP: if your tassel is too big or too small to fit the opening of the cap, cut the tassel open and add or remove yarn to make
it bigger or smaller.

SCARF
The scarf is crocheted in rows, making 2 turning chains after each row.

# Row Make 2 turning chains after each row.

2 115 dc (115)
3 with purple, 115 dc (115)

of the scarf.
