आयु

आयु पर आधाररत प्रश्न को हल करने के ललए आपको अनुपात, औसत, प्रलतशत और समीकरण हल करने की
अवधारणाओं का ज्ञान होना चालहए,क्ोंलक आयु पर आधाररत प्रश्नों को हल करते समय इन अवधारणाओं का
अक्सर उपयोग लकया जाता है।

कुछ अन्य महत्वपूर्ण अवधारर्ाएँ :

⮚ यलि A की वततमान आयु a वर्त है , तो n वर्ों के बाि A की आयु = (a + n) वर्त होगा
⮚ यलि A की वततमान आयु a वर्त है , तो n वर्त पहले A की आयु = (a - n) वर्त होगा
⮚ िो व्यक्ति की उम्र का अंतर हमेशा समान रहता हैं ।
⮚ उिहारण: यलि पलत और पत्नी की उम्र का अंतर उनके लववाह के समय 5 वर्त था, तो पलत और पत्नी के वततमान
आयु का अंतर भी 5 वर्त ही होगा।

अनुपात अवधारर्ा:
a. A और B की आयु का अनुपात a : b है । यदि x वर्ण बाि
उनकी आयु का अनुपात p : q और a और b की आयु का अंतर = p और q की आयु का अंतर, तो
x = p – a (इस अवधारर्ा को उिाहरर् से समझते हैं )
उिाहरर्: साक्षी और आयुर् के वततमान आयु का अनुपात 9 : 10 है । 4 वर्त बाि, उनकी आयु का अनुपात 11 : 12
होगा। 10 वर्त बाि साक्षी की आयु क्ा होगा?
हल: साक्षी आयुर्
वतणमान में (P): 9 : 10
Δ = 11 – 9 = 2 Δ = 12 – 10 = 2
4 वर्ण बाि (P + 4): 11 : 12
2 ≡ 4 वर्त
⇒ 1 = 2 वर्त
इसललए, 10 वर्त बाि साक्षी की आयु = 9 × 2 वर्त + 10 वर्त = 28 वर्त

b. A और B की आयु का अनुपात a : b है । यदि x वर्ण बाि उनकी आयु का अनुपात p : q और

a और b की आयु का अंतर  p और q की आयु का अंतर, तो सबसे पहले हमें इस अंतर को बराबर
करना होगा, दिर ऊपर वाले अवधारर्ा द्वारा हल करना होगा।
अंतर को समान बनाने के दलए, हमें अनुपात की एक या िो पिों को सामान संख्या से गुर्ा करना होगा।
(इस अवधारर्ा को उिाहरर् द्वारा समझते हैं )
उिाहरर्: सुनील और अलनल की उम्र का अनुपात 8: 7 है । 6 साल बाि, उनकी उम्र का अनुपात 19: 17 होगा।
उनके वततमान आयु में अंतर क्ा है ?
हल:: सुनील अलनल
वतणमान में (P): 8 : 7
Δ = 19 – 8 = 11 Δ = 17 – 7 = 10
6 वर्ण बाि (P + 6): 19 : 17

यहााँ सुनील और अलनल के उम्र का अंतर समान नहीं है , इसललए हम क्षैलतज अंतर सामान बनाकर इसे सामान
बनाते हैं ।
क्षैलतज अंतर को समान बनाने के ललए, हम प्रत्येक अनुपात का क्षैलतज अंतर, िोनों अनुपातों के क्षैलतज अंतर के
LCM के बराबर बनाते है ।

यहां 8 – 7 = 1 और 19 – 17 = 2 और 1 और 2 का LCM = 2
इसललए, हम प्रत्येक अनुपात के पिों का अंतर 2 के बराबर बनाएं गे

वतणमान में (P): 16 : 14 (8 × 2 = 16 और 7 × 2 = 14)
Δ = 19 – 16 = 3 Δ = 17 – 14 = 3
6 वर्ण बाि (P + 6): 19 : 17
⇒ 3 = 6 वर्त
⇒ 1 = 2 वर्त
इसललए, आवश्यक अंतर = 16 – 14 = 2 × 2 वर्त = 4 वर्त

1. श्री तथा श्रीमती दत्ता की आयु का अनुपात 8:7 है । अभी से 10 वर्ष बाद, अनुपात 21:19 होगा। उनके वववाह
के समय, यह अनुपात 7:6 था। ककतने वर्ष पहले उन्‍
होंने वववाह ककया था।

2. 6 वर्ष पहले, एक माता की आयु उसकी पुत्री की आयु की 3 गुनी थी। यकद उनकी वतषमान आयु का योग 60
वर्ष है तो माता और उसकी पुत्री की वतषमान आयु क्रमश: क्‍या होगी?

3. दो व्यवियों की आयु में अंतर 16 वर्ष है । यकद 6 वर्ष पहले बडे व्‍यवि की आयु छोटे व्‍यवि की आयु से 3
गुणा ज्‍यादा थी, तो उनकी वतषमान आयु ज्ञात करें ।

4. 5 साल पहले एक ही पररवार के 4 सदस्यों की आयु का योग 106 साल था। आज जब बेटी की शादी के बाद
पुत्री के स्‍थान पर बहु आ जाती है , तो उनकी आयु का योग 108 साल है । यह मानते हुए कक यहााँ पररवार में
अन्य कोई पररवतषन नहीं हुआ है और सभी लोग जीववत हैं , तो पुत्री और बहू की आयु में अंतर ककतना है ?

5. A की वतषमान आयु 10 साल पहले की आयु से 120% है , लेककन 20 साल बाद उसकी आयु जजतनी होगी,
उसकी 75% है । उसकी वतषमान आयु क्या है ?

Answers:
1. 4 years
2. 42 and 18
3. 14 years and 30 years
4. 18 years

Age
To solve the problems based on age, you should know the concepts of Ratio, Average, Percentage
and linear equation because these concepts are frequently used while solving questions of the
chapter Problem based on Age.

Some other important concepts:

⮚ If present age of A is a year, then the age of A after n years = (a + n) years
⮚ If present age of A is a year, then the age of A n years before = (a – n) years
⮚ Difference of the age of two person will always be same.
⮚ Ex: If the difference of the age of Husband and wife was 5 years at the time of their
marriage, then the difference of the present age of Husband and wife is 5 years.

Ratio concept:

a. Ratio of ages of A and B is a : b. If x years later the ratio of their ages will be p : q and
difference of ages of a and b = difference of ages of p and q, then
x = p – a (Let understand this concept by example)

Ex: The ratio of Sakshi’s and Aayush’s present ages is 9 : 10. After 4 years, the ratio of
their ages become 11 : 12. What is Sakshi’s age after 10 years?

Sol: Sakshi Aayush

Present (P): 9 : 10
Δ = 11 – 9 = 2 Δ = 12 – 10 = 2
4 years later (P + 4): 11 : 12
2 ≡ 4 years
⇒ 1 = 2 years
Hence, the Sakshi’s age after 10 years = 9 × 2 years + 10 years = 28 years

b. Ratio of ages of A and B is a : b. If x years later the ratio of their ages will be p : q and
difference of a and b ≠ difference of p and q, then first of all we have to make this
difference equal, then solve by above concept.
To make the difference equal, we have to multiply one or two terms of the ratios by
same number. (Let understand this concept by example)
Ex: The ages of Sunil and Anil are in the ratio 8 : 7. after 6 years, the ratio of their ages
will be 19 : 17. What is the difference in their present ages?

Sol: Sunil Anil

Present (P): 8 : 7
Δ = 19 – 8 = 11 Δ = 17 – 7 = 10
6 years later (P + 6): 19 : 17

Here difference of ages of Sunil and Anil is not same, so first of all we will make it same
by making same horizontal difference.

To make horizontal difference same, we make horizontal difference of each ratio equal to
the LCM of horizontal differences of the two ratios.

Here 8 – 7 = 1 and 19 – 17 = 2 and LCM of 1 and 2 = 2

So, we will make horizontal difference of terms in each ratio is equal to 2

Present (P): 16 : 14 (8 × 2 = 16 and 7 × 2 = 14)
Δ = 19 – 16 = 3 Δ = 17 – 14 = 3
6 years later (P + 6): 19 : 17
⇒ 3 = 6 years
⇒ 1 = 2 years
Hence, the required difference = 16 – 14 = 2 × 2 years = 4 years

1. The ratio of ages of Mr. and Mrs. Dutta is 8 : 7. After 10 years from now, the raio will be 21 :
19. At the time of their marriage, this ratio was 7 : 6. How many years ago they were married.

2. 6 years ago, age of a mother was 3 times that of her daughter. If sum of their present ages is 60
years, what are the present age of mother and daughter respectivley?

3. The ages of two persons differ by 16 years. If 6 years ago elder one was 3 times as old as the
younger one, find their present age.

4. The sum of the ages of 4 members of a family 5 years ago was 106 years. Today, when the
daughter has been married off and replaced by a daughter in law, the sum of their ages, is 108.
Assuming that there has been no other change in the family structure and all the people are alive,
what is the difference in the age of the daughter and the daughter in law?

5. A's age is 120% of what it was 10 years ago, but 75 % of what it will be after 20 years. What is
his present age?
