TMP/Task 1 Self -Reflection

Reflect on your presentations and critique yourself. Be honest with yourself but not too critical.
Your responses should contain specific evidence from your presentation. This is a major grade,
answers should be thorough and be written in complete sentences. Please write your answers in
blue font:

Part I: While reflecting on your TMP answer the following questions. Focus on your
presentation and not your group members.

1) Explain at least three things you did well in your presentation.

In my presentation, I did well in establishing a strong connection with the audience by
incorporating purposeful gestures and maintaining eye contact, creating an engaging and
inclusive atmosphere. Additionally, I performed well in communicating complex ideas concisely,
explaining the viability of each solution with clarity and brevity. This ensured that the audience
could easily grasp the essential components of our proposed solutions without feeling
overwhelmed by unnecessary details. Moreover, at the end of our presentation, I did great at
explaining the practicality of our solutions to audiences' lives, demonstrating their relevancy. In
other words, by aligning our proposals with the audience’s real-world concerns, I aimed to make
the solutions more relatable and convincing, which I conveyed well near the end of our
presentation to offer a sense of call-to-action. These strengths collectively enhanced the overall
impact and effectiveness of my presentation.

2) Explain at least three things you can improve on.

One aspect I can improve upon is transitioning more seamlessly between different segments of
the presentation. During the TMP, for example, my peer would mention one bucket of our main
thesis and when I had to explain and speak on the next bucket my part felt separated from what
my peers had previously discussed, due to a lack of a transition. Another area for improvement is
my speaking pace. I recognized moments, specifically nearing the conclusion of our TMP, where
I spoke too quickly, potentially making it challenging for the audience to fully grasp the overall
main information needed to take away. Another improvement I can make is in restating
arguments and connecting our claims/ solutions back to the argument. Specifically, after I
evaluated our main solutions, I could have restated the connection back to our main argument/
thesis to make our presentation more cohesive.

3) What steps will you take to improve your performance?

To address my identified areas for improvement, I plan to implement specific strategies. Firstly, I
will work on creating transition sentences and employing effective signposting to ensure a

1
smoother flow between different segments of the presentation. This will enhance the cohesion of
our team’s overall delivery. Secondly, to overcome the issue of speaking too quickly, especially
toward the conclusion, I will consciously slow down, incorporating intentional pauses to allow
the audience to digest crucial information more effectively. Additionally, I will focus on
emphasizing key points to reinforce understanding. Lastly, in terms of restating arguments and
connecting solutions back to the main thesis, I will adopt a more deliberate approach by ensuring
a clear articulation of the connections after evaluating our main solutions. These targeted steps
aim to refine my presentation skills, fostering a more seamless and impactful delivery in future
team activities.

Part II: Using your expanded TMP rubric, grade your peer’s contribution to the TMP
presentation. Highlight the score you would give your group for each row and justify your
answer.

TMP Rubric:

Row # Parvathy Sujith Anjika Das

Row 1 High High

Understand and Analyze
Context

Row 2 High Middle

Understand and Analyze
Argument

Row 3 High High

Evaluate Sources & Evidence

Row 4 High High

Understand and Analyze
Perspective

Row 5 High High

Total High High

Overall Source

Scoring Justification:
I assigned high scores to both Parvathy and Anjika on the TMP rubric based on the collective
strength of our team’s performance. Each team member covered different aspects of the

2
presentation, but during our preparation and rehearsals, we consistently provided valuable
feedback and honest critiques of each other parts to ensure that all the requirements of the rubric
were met for each of our specific parts on the TMP. In other words, by giving feedback and
helping modify what each other had to say, we essentially had worked on our parts as well as all
other parts in the TMP, leading to a successful presentation. This mutual commitment to
constructive feedback and the seamless integration of our contributions contributed to the high
scores in all categories, reflecting a collective dedication to our individual excellence for our
own parts that we spoke about in our TMP presentation.

Part III: Reflection

1) Thinking back to your Mock Task 1, how much have you progressed in your ability to
work in a team, presentation skills, and writing skills?
In terms of progress, I've noticed substantial improvement in my ability to work in a team, refine
my presentation skills, and enhance my writing capabilities since Mock Task 1. For example,
during our team collaboration, I took the initiative to use a shared project management platform,
where we could assign tasks, set internal deadlines, and track our progress. This not only
streamlined our teamwork but also highlighted my organizational and leadership skills within the
group. Moreover, the process of collectively brainstorming ideas for the presentation allowed me
to appreciate diverse perspectives and integrate them seamlessly into our final presentation. This
experience not only helped the content but also improved my ability to write and project
well-thought-out ideas.

2) Reflecting on the Task 1 process, explain what is the most important thing you learned?
The answer to this question can be anything. Think about how you worked in a team,
your writing, presentations, work ethic, etc.
The most important lesson I learned during the Task 1 process was the pivotal role of
communication within a team. For instance, when Parvathy and I had accidentally misunderstood
what we told each other we had ended independently researched the same critical topic, leading
to redundancy in our content. When we recognized this during our individual review of the
presentation, we promptly and professionally discussed it through our group chat, resolved the
issue, and assigned complementary tasks to cover for the mistake. This incident underscored the
significance of transparent and consistent communication in avoiding misunderstandings and
optimizing our collective efforts.

3) Task 2 requires an individual presentation. How will having completed the team
presentation help you with your individual presentation?
Completing the team presentation for Task 1 has greatly benefited my individual presentation
skills for Task 2. Witnessing my team members' proactive work ethic and minimal

3
procrastination inspired me to maintain a similar level of diligence. For instance, observing an
effective work ethic of Parvathy in which she had set precise individual due dates for the TMP,
inspired me to do the same to keep up with a sound momentum in getting work done on time so
we had enough days to rehearse in class when we were all together. This newfound work ethic
instilled a sense of responsibility and accountability, which I plan to carry forward into my
individual presentation for Task 2. The experience with my team has set a standard for thorough
preparation and timely execution that I aim to uphold in my independent work, contributing to an
overall improvement in my approach to individual tasks.
