suitors. The dance takes its name from the heavy rings
worn on the ankles of the Princess.

1. Why is there a need to study the History, Classification of Philippine Folkdance?

Studying the history, classification of folkdance are important because they preserve the
Philippine culture and pass it on to the next generation. They are a uniting force to the Philippine
people preserving history and tradition and most especially they help keep a culture alive. The
history of Philippine Folk Dancing incorporates influences from immigrants and conquerors
while at the same time maintaining distinctly Filipino roots. Philippine Folk Dancing is a true
reflection of daily life in past centuries while enchanting modern audiences at the same time.
2. What is the Importance of Folkdance in the daily lives of different people in a region or in a
country?

Folk dances are important because they help keeps a culture of people alive, by sharing
and teaching younger generations the dances. Dance keeps the history of people alive as well.
Dances are ways a community celebrates a special event or important date in time. People
have been doing folk dances for hundreds of years, and preserve the Philippine culture and
pass it on to the next generation to value the tradition alive.

3. How could one gain values in studying folkdance?

Studying folkdance could teach one about different interpretation of ideas and folklore.
Anything that makes the soul sing or the feet tap could be good for the expansion of the mind
and the greater understanding of human nature. It is a great worth to our culture, our nation, and
to the children. It’s a way to share time together as families, friends and especially preserve the
joyful tunes we’ve inherited from our ancestors and to pass them on to others. In this practices
we can create a social interaction, having a healthy hobby, lasting friendships formed and
educational value.
