E. Abstraction WHAT IS SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT?


 Subject verb agreement- means that a subject and its verb must be both
singular or both plural: A singular subject takes a singular verb. A
plural subject takes a plural verb.
 Subject verb agreement- it is a grammatical rule that states the verb
must agree in number with subject.
RULES IN THE SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT
 S-form of the verb (Singular)
Example: sings, dances, writes, eats
 Base form of the verb (Plural)
Example: sing, dance, write, eat

Rule 1. Singular subject noun takes an s-form of the verb.
Example:
 The lady walks at the grocery store.
Rule 2. Plural subject nouns takes a base form of the verb.
Example:
 The victims run in the police station.
Rule 3. The subject pronoun: He, She, It-takes the s-form of the verb.
Example:
 She eats a lot during breakfast.
 It takes a lot of time.
 He drives the car recklessly.
Rule 4. The subject pronouns: I, We, You and They take the base form of the
verb.
Example:
 They eat my favorite food.
 We jump from here to there.
 You know I love chicken nuggets.
Rule 5. Singular Indefinite Pronouns must take an s-form of the verb.
Example:
 Everybody wants to attend the birthday party,
 Everyone is ready for the graduation.
Rule 6. Plural Indefinite Pronouns must take the base form of the verb.
Example:
 Only a few keep a lion as pet.

Rule 7. Subjects connected by “and” take the base form of the verb.
